    Can it be done?

I like shooting skeet and I'm looking for a nice O/U in 28 ga. I live in Ca in the SF bay area. Cabella's in Reno Nevada has a fairly good deal on a Silver Pigeon 1 28" 28 ga. No internet sales!
Can I just drive to Reno and purchase it? Are out of state buyers excluded?
Is there a legal way this can happen?

Have you tried the online auction sites like GunBroker? You'll get hit with shipping and FFL fee, but sometime it's worth the trouble.

Last time I tried to buy a non C&R gun out of state in person most people just told me no. Occasionally someone would say they'd be glad to sell to me if I told them what FFL to ship to.

If I were you I'd line up an FFL in CA that would receive the rifle for you and do the transfer, then walk into Cabella's with that name and number in hand. IIRC the CA FFL will have to fax over a copy of their license.

Don't know if it'll work, but that's the tack I'd take.

Cabellas would have to ship it to a CA FFL where you would undergo the dros process and 10 day wait. You can't just run over there, buy it and bring it back. http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Tr...rms_Interstate

Call them and see if they will do it for you.

You should be able to find that shotgun locally. It will save you shipping and FFL transfer fees.

Cabelas will sell you the gun but they must ship it to a local FFL. A few of my buddies have done this but the FFL can charge you whatever they want. Find a decent priced FFL and it may be worth it to purchase from out of state.

            ><

You would first call your local FFL and and ask if they will except an out of state O/U from an FFL (Cabela's) ask how much for the service and does it inclide DROS.

If your OK with the 80-150 bucks for the FFL to recieve the shipment and do the DROS ....call Cabels and buy the gun and have them ship to the Calif FFL.

Cost will bb... price of gun + shipping + Cali Tax + FFL fees to recieve and DROS.

or if you want to buy in person....buy and have them ship to the calif FFL....same final cost but you get to inspect at Cabela's

Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to make this purchase work as cheaply as possible so I'm going to see what the local dealers can offer.
If I had to do an internet deal Joel Etchens has a slightly better price, but I really like the idea of seeing the gun before purchasing.

Buy it and have them send it to your FFL

had a really good experience with Joel Etchens. the sales guys will send you pics of each gun they have in stock so you can pick out the wood. When I committed to buy they shipped it and send me the tracking # within a few hours.

I've purchased guns via internet from out of state dealers/individuals numerous times. I've found that I'd rather deal with the transactional complexity than cope with the paucity of selection at most local dealers.
That said, have you tried Imbert and Smithers in San Mateo? They have a reasonable shotgun selection.
If that doesn't work, PM me and I'll get you the info regarding the FFL I use. He's excellent, professional and is in San Jose.
