I recently purchased a mossberg 500 silver model, its my first shotgun.
It came with the following a28 inch vent rib barrel, also a 18 1/2 smooth bore barrel
.silver trigger assembly (marine coated) also was drilled and tapped for optics .339 dollars.
Me and my oldest sun can not wait to get it out of jail for a range day.
Any acc. u shotgun experts recommended.

Keep it simple. If you are using it more for clays, I wouldn't add anything but maybe a HiViz sight.

For HD, a light, side saddle and a buttstock saddle and be done with it.

It's a shot gun they don't need accessories.

Maybe a sling and side shell holder. Other than that leave it be.

I bought mine as a HD shotgun. I put a new stock on that had a pistol grip and a tri rail forend on it, flash light, and soon will be adding a red dot.

Ammo...Shoot the hell out of it. That gun will run anything you put in it. Enjoy!

Forget about accessories for now. Later a side saddle, a sling if you intend to carry it a lot, I wouldn't put any optics on it. Run it as is for now. A cleaning kit would be a good idea.

Take it out to shoot skeet! Tomorrow I'm going to shoot two rounds of skeet. Did it last weekend, and the weekend before that I did it for the first time. It's unbelievably fun! And it should make a good father/son activity. If my dad were around, I'd take him without hesitation! Attending a clinic is recommended, as you can learn a lot about shooting before you blast shells into grass and dirt

Thanks for all the great input. I was thinking about skeet, I go up to sun mountain and when iam in the pistol and rifle bays .I can hear all the shotgun's, looks like some good fun and challenging. Definitely want some hi viz sights and when at home setup for home defense .Gotta love mossberg.

The Hi-Viz sight really helps pointing the shotgun for sure.

I got a Mossberg Maverick 88 and I love it for my HD weapon.

Limbsavers are a nice idea I think also. Especially for a younger shooter. Nothing wrong with making a weapon more comfortable. Saying learn to shoot and you won't need ones not very helpful imho.

I'm advising OP to learn to mount the shotgun correctly... I think it's good to know you have the correct form before you compensate bad form by adding an accessory.

Obviously, with your expertise it's readily apparent that I'm FOS.

The best accessory I can recommend for any clays shooting is a good instructor (my recommendation would be to find an older guy, you know, some grey hair at least). After your first full day you will have a better idea what else you need.
