    12 Ga, 1 1/8oz VS 1oz

On Trap I switched from 1 1/8oz to 1oz and I do much better. On my own reloads I use 19.5gr of Red Dot to 1oz of #8. Any thoughts?

Try going down to 7/8ths. Lots of people have claimed to have success in trap with lighter loads. Some disagree.

Here's a fact. When you're on, you are on.
    Don't panic bro.

A couple of possibilities.....your gun patterns better with the new load or your less prone to flinch shots.

(and I'll go with this one) your just getting better at shooting Trap.

I can't tell the difference, but then again I don't really know jack. I still miss too much either way.

Most shooters will tell you that you only need to shoot 1 1/8 when you get to the 25 yard line in handicap. All I shoot is 1 oz and I could not be happier. Also think of the savings....every eighth shell is free if you don't load that extra 1/8 of an ounce.

I personally like the one ounce load a lot. Not so much that my performance is any better, but the perceived recoil is a bit less, making it much more enjoyable to shoot. I shoot clays currently more for enjoyment, so the better I can make it, the sweeter the time is spent.

I shoot 1oz for everything. In FITASC it's required.

                  1oz or less

One thing I do notice is that other people shoot and there is a slight delay before the clay explodes. With the lighter weight loads seem to explode sooner obviously the higher FPS! If this is true it should reduce the lead required for a shot maybe better in the wind... Just thinking

Some older semi-autos won't work unless you use at least an ounce of shot.. most modern semi auto's were made for steel shot use where less payload and higher velocity means that you can use a lighter, faster payload of anything and they will still cycle. Some semi-autos tend to like the heavier field loads and will still refuse to cycle the lower end target 1 1/8 oz loads.

                      50 FPS equals ~.2 feet @ 40 yards

Measuring lead when shooting at a traget will result in more misses...........just shoot the clay and forget the 50 FPS

I like to think I'd do better with the extra 1/8 oz., after all it has more BB's and would increase my chance at hitting something; but truthfully I don't see a difference in my score between them. I just go with the one that costs less.

I load #9, scored my personal best with them (23 out of 25)
I am very comfortable, no hamburger shoulder after shooting a while & I get to follow up my shots pretty good, I do better with 3/4 oz loads than with 1 1/8 loads for skeet.

@ the end of the day that extra 1/8 oz means a big difference in fatigue . Save the 11/8 ozers for the Annie Oakley.

Lots of shooters shoot lighter loads for practice but many use 1 1/8 oz loads for competition. That tells me they want "the edge", real or not, that 1 1/8 oz loads provide.
