    Remington 1100 Won't Cycle

I just got my new Remington 1100 semiauto and took it out yesterday for it's first time and I couldn't get it to cycle with 2 3/4" #8 target loads. I double checked the box and the shot wasn't just for pumps. Is there some type of gas adjustment that has to be made?

check your gas gasket seal...especially that rubber o ring.

it is not unheard of for the oring to get jammed or simply break...

        disasmble your gun...

        take off the hand guard...
        take out the barrel...

there is a 3 piece gasket kit on the magazine rod...

if this is installed in the worng order or the gasket is broke...
usually the gun does not cycle...

If it is a LE/HD type gun it is not unusual for poor function with target loads. Try some regular field loads and see what happens.

First things first if it is new gun then check the o-ring. If that is ok then lube the gun well with Mobil 1 or a very good gun oil and make sure to get the recoil spring. Shoot a few boxes of hunting loads to break the shot gun in. then try target laods. The gun may be tight and need a break in period. The 1100 is a very good gas gun. I just got my second one and it runs great. If you are insistant on unning target loads and the gun won't fully function then you may need to open the gas ports one drill size larger. This will batter the action more though if you go back to using a full house load.

Okay. Here's the trick on Remington 1100's that IPSC shooters have figured out.

1 - Make sure you've got good gas rings. If not, toss 'em and start over. They're cheap but will do more bad than good.
2 - The tube needs to be clean and dry. The ONLY lubricant you should put on there is powder graphite.
3 - The action (trigger group, bolt area and action bar assembly) live to be clean and lubed. A GREAT lubricant is Corrosion-X. It's cheap, you spray it in wet and go for it.
4 - Lastly, and by lastly I mean you don't do it until absolutely necessary, you can open up the gas ports. If after the above and the ports are clean (Briley makes a great port cleaning brush for 1100's) you can open up the ports a smidge to bleed more gas into the action.

The 1100 likes medium/high energy loads. 3 dram as a minimum. Mine has been tuned so I can shoot down to loads into the 2.5 to 2.75 dram range reliably.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to write.

I think there is a huge thread on this already. Mine won't cycle loads under 1 1/4 ounces )=

I'm pretty sure I just need to do something with the gas rings like bigdawg mention.
