    shell size and autoloaders

went skeeeeeting and had a BLAST!!! nothing like shooting moving targets.
Picked up a Legacy/Escort auto to dedicate to skeet. Not the best gun but I"m not going to compete with it. Just a plinker really.
Just realized the model is 3.5 PS/MAGNUM model

does that mean it will ONLY fire the 3.5" shell or UP to 3.5"?
Just want to be sure...which is what I should've done first but it was on closeout price.

It will fire up to 3 1/2" shells. It will may have a little bit of trouble firing 2 3/4" shells though.

Owner's manual should warn you if it will not cycle with certain loads. Many 3 1/2 Magnum capable shotties will not cycle with light loads such as bird in 2 3/4 shell.

          Nice gun for waterfowl

Shoot a box of 2-3/4" China-Mart cheapo/promotional shells, alternatively you can try dove loads or real skeet loads. See if the gun cycles. Go from there. You do NOT want to try a round of skeet with 3" or longer shells.

            why not? shoulder will hurt?

I just read this from a site describing the model I"m getting...

The Escort AS has a stock and forend of seasoned Turkish walnut, with cut checkering and durable oil finish. The Escort PS features a weather beating polymer stock. Every Escort comes with sling swivel studs, three choke tubes and a choke tube wrench, magazine plug for migratory waterfowl shooting, stock adjustments shims, and magazine extender. Standard features include a magazine cut-off for loading single rounds and an easy to reach adjustment screw for changing from normal to magnum loads and barrels are made of nickel chromium molybdenum steel.

so I"m assuming the "standard" load is 3" which means the 2.75 SHOULD be good to go?

              Shoulder may, wallet definitely will.

Not sure you'll easily find skeet rounds (an ounce or so of 7-1/2's or 8's) in the 3" length category. The distance between the gun and the bird is not something you'll need a magnum shell for... Magnum shells are made for bigger things that are not as close to the shooter as skeet birds.

went straight to the horses mouth and called Escort/Legacy. Said the 3.5 model is UP to and has a lever/switch/screw/button/doo-hickey used to adjust chambering from 3.5 to 3" or 2.75" shells. I'll see how it works when I get it.
