    870 follower/spring binding

Ive had my 6+1 870 express since black friday 2012, and the first 150 rounds i put through it presented no issues, untill I took it apart to clean it. Since then, 9/10 times if I load the mag tube with 6 rounds and proceed to shoot it, I will only get 2 rounds to kick out of the tube before the spring binds and fails to eject a new shell into the receiver. The solution ive found is to loosen the mag extension a half turn, and the spring unbinds itself, then retighten the extension, untill I fully load the tube again.

Given that loosening the extension frees the spring, it makes me think it is hanging up between the mag tube and extension, but i have not found any marks or burrs/edges that it could hang up on.

Stock plastic follower/mag spring by the way.

    Any ideas?

Common issue with the Remington mag extension. Comes from improper installation of the tube when its put back on the shotgun.

Watch the second video under the section "Tube Extension Kit" from Aippi's website on the correct method. Should clear up your issue.

Wow, something that simple has caused me a large amount of frustration at the range. Thank you for the link!

Yep, I had this exact same problem with my +3 mag extension. If I loaded more than 4-5 rounds, the magazine would stop ejecting rounds. after the first 2 rounds.

Took it my local gunsmith and he polished my stock follower (he also verified the extension was installed correctly) and my rounds now cycle flawlessly! Apparently, the stock followers can warp due to the heat from the barrel.

        +1 for Wiser Owl!

Not a big fan of the stock spring and follower my self. I was having the same issues. Always had to install it a certain way so it wouldnt bind. I will be picking up a Wilson Combat follower and spring. The spring has a little more umf to it and the follower is a nice solid piece of polymer and wont bind.

Dang, wish I saw that before I purchased a Brownells follower. Maybe I'll get it anyway when it comes time to change my spring...
