First Shotgun, Remington 870 Express

A couple of weeks ago my fiance surprised me with a Remington 870 Express.
Added the Magpul MOE handguard today.
Next up an OD Green cerakote job.
Maybe Wilson Combat sights.

Any other suggestions?

It's a Primary Arms Micro Dot (Gen 7).

No issues so far, but I've only got ~200 rounds through it since mounting the dot.

be sure to take it out and beat on it before trusting it to be your home defense go to weapon

the newer 870 express shotguns often have problems with the shells sticking in the chamber and you may need to polish the chamber up if you want it to be 100% reliable.

Everyone has preference, but I prefer KISS style weapons. In home defense setup, my 870 has an 18" bbl with bead sight and pistol grip with +2 magazine extension. Nothing on it can break off or run out of batteries. Right now its sitting in skeet setup, ready for the clinic next Sunday!

Anyway, before doing cosmetic mods to your new Express, you may want to take a look at some reliability improvements using about $30 of 870 Police parts. Then shoot it a lot to check function and reliability. Most people upgrade the carrier dog follower spring, extractor and magazine follower & spring. Another common upgrade is the giant safety button.

that is good advice. i did all that and changed the barrel to one with an IC choke and rifle sights.

Op: Everyone had cool things to say which is good. I think Crosseyedshooter and Steelcore have made some excellent recommendations. I guess you should determine exactly what kind of role the Remington will play in your life. HD/SD ? Then, try out a bunch of different tactical slings and see which fits you best and helps you achieve that level of readiness that you need to get to your goal.

I honestly can't speak much to this because I am an AKM / Glock / 1911 guy. But, the basics count across platforms. Tell you what. I'd like to see this Remington once you're done updating it.

Good choice on the cerokote. Otherwise they love to rust. I'll be going that route myself soon. Look up how to polish the chamber. I would do it either way if your going to trust your life to an 870 express. I'd pass on expensive sights for a hd shotgun. If you can't hit it without aiming your most likely going to prison in ca for an unjustified shooting. Fancy sights really only come into play with slugs (not for hd) or over 30+yards ( not ca version of hd). I'd spend the money on a nice light.

You should get a flashlight mount if you intend to use it for HD.
