My AOW took 7 months as well. I would be nice to be able to build one of these however I just can't find a S12 receiver. Any leads?

^^^ as far as I understand you would need a new front trunnion that is the part that has the serial number on it. I may be wrong someone smarter then me will correct me if thats not right

Gonna have to roll your own, I have one shell I already broke up. Just need a gun to chop up so I can pull the rails and copy those.

I actually just talked to a guy at the San Jose office of the ATF. He wasn't sure about the answer so he gave me a number of who to call tomorrow.
The thing to me is this, if I chop up a wasr for parts and rebuild it on an NDS, the new serial number is on the receiver. The trunnion has nothing to do (numbers wise) with that firearm anymore. So why should a Saiga be any different. Imported AK's use the trunnion numbers for their serial numbers, but soon as you cut it up, the new US receiver has the serial. Since i'm manufacturing the receiver myself I can do what I want with the number.
I'll ask tomorrow, if I have to i'll write in to the tech branch for a ruling.
But that's my case, and that seems pretty fricken reasonable to me.

I don't have personal knowledge on the subject, but I've been told by a couple people that ATF is considering the front trunnion to be the firearm on the S-12. why that would be different for a 12ga AK vs. a 7.62AK, I have no idea. since the serial number is on the trunnion, it makes sense that the trunnion is considered the firearm, but what about all those demilled AKs that get imported? perhaps it has to do with Title I vs Title II status. maybe getting rid of the 3rd hole is more important than the trunnion.

I even seem to recall someone who removed and destroyed the front trunnion on an S-12 without damaging the sheet metal receiver. at that point, he was able to weld in all the markings on the sheet metal and have a "virgin" receiver to install his new trunnion into.

unfortunately, I think it might take a ruling to know for sure.
