Another possible cause of later 870 problems

After reading all the threads about polishing out 870 chambers, this guy on youtube says there is a bump which prevents extraction. By the comments, it appears removing the bump cures the problem.

I've only had extraction failures with one of mine, and it's a parkerized 870P manufactured in 2011.

I just checked and there is no bump in that barrel whatsoever, when I compare it to any of my older Remingtons they all look exactly the same in the area shown in the video.

I'm not saying the dude is wrong, but I can tell you that after polishing my chamber with steel wool the problem completely went away - I didn't have to grind anything and never touched the area where the supposed bump is.

Never had an issue in functionality but I have an older model. My only gripe is the trust pitting n the receiver. Love the shotgun but the pitting is driving me crazy.

checked and I do not have a bump. It is not perfectly smooth right there though, so maybe some polish is in order but I don't want to create a problem either. I have never had a jam yet, granted probably only shot a little over 100 shells so far. I have never polished the chamber either though. My guess would be that that bump was formed due to jams and they would get progressivly worse, or maybe his always had something there who knows. The machining on mine looks like super fine threads right there.

I posted this a couple of years ago. I found this extra lip on my Vang Comp barrel. Not Vang Comp's fault, probably just QC issue at Remington.

It appears no one has a 870 with the bump. I'm chalking it up to bad machining.
It's just another thing to consider when diagnosing fte problems with the 870.

You're have one that actually has a rough chamber, so polishing did the trick.
