Has the modern gun pretty much stayed the same over the years as per it's ancestors?
I hear quality has declined at Remington, but wondering what the difference would be?

I think basic design has remained the same with the exception of accessories like stock, sights and forends. The biggest change is the adoption of modern manufacturing techniques to keep costs down. Unfortunately, that means some touching up and final finishing by manual labor is missing. Some consider that a decline in quality while others just accept it as present reality.

The wingmasters are still exceptional guns.
The expresses are rough, less finished and use different materials causing them to be of lesser quality than new or old wingmasters.

Remington can still produce a good gun, but you're going to pay for it.

Yes, I should've said the Express versions keep costs down because the Wingmaster and Police models are apparently still made the ol' fashioned way but cost double compared to an Express model.

I'm thinking that if you are willing to fluff and buff an express, you can have just as good as a gun as the wingmaster. Except for the finish.

And the wood. I handled a 20g Express at Big 5 the other day out of curiosity, and the wood was some sorry looking ****; I've seen nicer timber on pallets or WASRs.

(Unless you got a synthetic, which is what I would do if I got an Express.)

Pretty much spot on. I'm one of the some that see it as the times. And it's not just Remington.
