Magpul SGA stock for trap?

I have an 870 express and I'm bored with it so I was thinking to try another stock. I haven't been able to find any pictures of the SGA stock on a shotgun with a 28" Barrel.

Is this stock too tatical for trap? Or is it a good idea?

Any recommendations welcome.

"Too tactical for trap?" What does that mean? We have an employee who can blast clays out of the sky all day long with a shotgun fitted with an AR-15 collapsing stock.

I guess it's down to what you are comfortable with. Maybe it's a white shoes after Labor Day thing.

From my personal experience, stocks with pistol grips don't work particularly well for trap. Also, when I got my first adjustable comb shotgun, my world was rocked.

That doesn't mean that you can't make it work though. There were guys on my team who shot tactical Benellis pretty dang well. I just wouldn't call it ideal.

This isn't exactly a pistol grip stock though, and it does have some adjustment of comb and length, granted it's not exactly fine tuned, but it's also not $300 bucks like the nice ones I was looking at.

I noticed a guy shooting trap with the Magpul stock. He let me try it. It was okay, but not liked I'd hoped.

I ended up getting a Jack West adjustable stock for my 870. Way better comb adjustment.

It seems like a good fit for a sporting shotgun depends on the drop of the comb and fit to YOUR face/cheek. I'm not sure there would be any tactical type stock that's ideal for sporting use since they seem to have a straighter comb for mounted optics which are higher than bead sights. I've come to the conclusion that shotgun stocks are like 1911 grips; one person's favorite might not work at all for somebody else.

I have a Knoxx Specops tactical stock on my 870 and, while fine for a "tactical" shotgun, it might just be the worst stock for a sporting shotgun, IMHO. I was thinking of trying the Magpul SGA or going back to the 13" LOP Remington stock with Limbsaver pad.

On the other hand, here's a vid of some guy dusting clays with a Knoxx Specops stock and no complaints.

I think the magpul stock is nice. Not overly tactical. As long as your not using an 18.5" barrel I think it would be perfect as long as its comfy for you. They are a bit heavy though.

That's with the adjustable butt plate and recoil reducer system.

The base stock with adjustable comb is $199.

Sorry, my iPhone editing skills are poor. I was commenting on tactical-style stocks in general not being optimal for sporting shotguns. However, the Magpul SGA is more like a hybrid stock. Maybe you could try it out and let us know if it's any good?

I went ahead and got the magpul stock, it was only $112. I'll invest in something with more comb adjustment when/if I get more serious about trap (probably a O/U at that time as well. I haven't gone yet this year now that I think about it, so this will give me some motivation to go have some fun.

I was tempted to update the MIM extractor too, but then I figured why bother, if it break or I see wear later replace it at that point. Actually I would have jsut replaced it if it didn't require custom fitting, although it didn't look that hard it seemed more work than it is worth for my use.

Got the stock set today, definitely another quality Magpul piece. Some might call it ugly, well it is certainly very magpulish.

I guess the only proper way to adjust LOP is to go shoot it and try adding and removing spacers?

Just wondering what is the capacity of your 870 express , also if i decided to swap the barrel for difference purpose( e.g defense) , will it gonna be a 18.5 or 20" barrel.
I am interested in getting started for shooting clays and is considering the 870/500 combo
