    rem 870 8 shot?

I'm thinking about getting a shotgun and at big 5 they have an 870 8 shot for 319 (sale). Thats $10 cheaper then turners 7 shot.

So I thought that maybe there is something wrong with big 5 fire arms.

So i guess what i'm asking is should i get it or should i get the one at turners.

By 8 shot, Big 5 may mean 7 in the magazine, and 1 in the chamber.

Though I have seen/read a lot of negative feedback regarding Big 5 (of which I do not necessarily disagree with), I bought two Remington 870s from Big 5 a couple of years ago. One was an 8 shot, the other a 7 shot (difference in barrel length).

I have had no prolbems whatsover with either. With the shorter barreled 870, I went ahead and put on some trijicon sights, added a Knoxx Compstock, 6 shot side saddle carrier, and gave it a nice OD green Duracoat. It is a great combat/defense weapon system.

I have put close to 1000 rounds of 00 and of slug through this one and it still feeds and fires without issue. I don't even have to clean it.

      Just my two copper coins...

Big5 you just sometimes have to put up with a moron or two depending, its just how much your will and patience is to buy it there. If they have a better deal then maybe thats the price for the added stress.

I bought the 8 shot ( 8 in the tube and 1 more chamber = 9) from big 5. Awsome shotgun. It is about 1.5 inches longer than the 7 shot... the barrel is 1 inch longer and the mag tube extends about 1/2 in past barrel.

buy without fear. I challenge anyone to find this shotgun new at that price. I couldnt do it, and I looked for nearly 6 months.

I like the extra capacity... 9 shots is plenty. I just cant believe anyone would ever really need that side saddle shell holder crap they put on a shotgun.

I am trying to find some inexpensive sights for it now .

Short answer to your Big 5 selling inferior rifles question... NO, they dont.

They sell the same ones that other stores do, maybe just different models. There are no "special big 5 rifles" .. they are not that big of a chain... if they dont do it for Walmart, they sure as hell wont make special, cheap, crappy guns for big 5.

The Big 5 here in TX is normally about 40-50 bucks higher than anywhere else in town. I had a older 870 that I wasn't useing so I got a short barrel and a mag tube extension and made it an 8 shot play toy. It's very reliable and feeds/fires 100%. It;s hard to beat the 870 platform.

If I were in the market for a Remington 870 Express, I would definately check out Big 5 for a good deal (I already have two 870 shotguns, so I'm not in the market for one right now). One friend got an Express from Big 5 and another one got the HD (basically an Express) from Turner's. They both work just fine.

As far as Big 5 getting inferior guns, well, my buddy bought a Marlin 1894 lever action from them. The Big 5 version comes with a perfectly functional smooth hardwood stock (works but looks ugly) versus checked walnut at the local gunshop. But, taking advantage of both a sale and a coupon, he got it for $200 less than the walnut stocked version would have cost if the local gunshop had one in stock. All the metal parts are the same for both rifles. You can get bargains at Big 5.

I purchased the 8 shot 870 last week at Big 5. It has a 20 inch long barrel, 7 in the mag tube plus one in the chamber. The have a new stock set that I havn't seen before, kinda nice. Get to pick it up next week. Same 870's as everywhere else.

I bought the sale 870 at big5 about a year ago, it is a champ. Depending where you are, the Big 5 in Del Mar/Solana Beach has been above average in service (for a big5).

I hefted the advertised 8-shot today - heavy, but that would mean more metal to absorb recoil. Mag extension about a half inch beyond the barrel... maybe just me, but it looks odd that way. And the pump slide twists around the magazine... normal for 870 express pumps to wobble like that?

Don't forget Big5's waiting period is 11 days, per their own company policy.

Today, I just bought the 8 Shot 870 for 329.99 at my local Big 5. Made sure it was new in the box. The girl cut the tape open in front of me. The 4473 and DROS went smooth, she obviously knew what she was doing. In and out quickly, even picked up a couple knives for dirt cheap on sale.

If there is a problem with the Remington 870 shotguns that Big 5 is selling it is not the stores fought it is a Remington QC problem. Lay the blame where it belongs. Remington does have a few QC problems with some of their 870 shotguns. I have receive a few with issues myself.
