Finally put my first shotgun in jail yesterday. What's the best online site with the biggest selection on accessories and best price?

Few upgrades I want to do is change the factory stock to a collapsable stock with pistol grip, add a heat shield, change the forend and add a side saddle. Any other recommended upgrades will help.

What brands are good and which ones should I stay away from? I don't have a set budget, as long as I'm getting what I paid for.

I probably would suggest looking at Ebay and Amazon and I often find those two places will have the best prices on whatever accessories you maybe looking for.

I just got my CZ 712 in to my LGS from Buds Gun Shop. Just started my 10 days and can't wait to get it the Friday after next!

I did get to fire it a bit at the range. Love it! Not only that, I scored on all 5 chokes, opposed to just the advertised 3. Stoked about that as well.

No that's the Hawk 982. Grats on the Remy you should enjoy it as it's a nice piece. I got most of my mods from Amazon and Optics Planet. I scored a Hogue forend, Messa side saddle, ATI shoulder stock with pistol grip. These Remingtons are nice. My Hawk 982 clone is almost identical - the ability to add a barrel without a spacer. I do like the collapsable AR style stock but they are way way to expensive at least the ones I looked at were. I'd also stay away from the heat shield . Post some picks when you can.

I had the Knoxx SpecOps stock and hated it. I swapped for the Compstock and love it. Helps with recoil and keeps the classic look which I like. Front bead sight. I have the Surefire 618LM forend. No saddles.

Forget all the extra tacti-crap. Just buy a couple cases of ammo and go shoot it. The weapon is good to go right out of the box. Since it is your first shotgun, you won't even have any idea what "accessories" you need until you have spent some time shooting it.

I would consider each of those things you mentioned to be downgrades.

Please don't buy a bunch of stuff for your shotgun. Instead, take this 1 day basic shotgun course at ITTS on August 10th, which is a saturday. It's 22 minutes from your area and costs $250.

After you've taken that class, you'll have an idea of what will really work for you. One thing I would recommend is a shorter stock. Modern combat shotgun shooting usually has you standing square with the target, not bladed, so a shorter stock is a must. I'd recommend a Hogue youth stock, they're about $50. If you want to go full-on tacticool get the Magpul one for around $100. If you really want to be matchy matchy you can get the fore end, too. Most of the collapsible stocks suck quality wise, with the exception being Mesa Tactical.

A heat shield originally came on shotguns with a bayonet mount so you could safely grab a hot barrel while doing bayonet thrusts. Plan on doing bayonet thrusts a lot? Heat shields clamp on to the barrel, most of them are pretty crappy and will scratch the finish on your barrel (most guys that want a heat shield are also the types that will freak out if their gun gets scratches).

Follow my advice and you're well on your way to being a shooter, instead of a photographer.

good, solid advise. KISS principles work best for a defensive shotgun. stay away from a sling for HD use; if you already have one, lose it. it can easily create bigger problems than those it can solve in close quarters.

i prefer a standard stock, but several fractured clavicles later, i found that the Mesa LEO telescopic stock with enidine buffer does make a difference in felt recoil for me. i tried it out on a friend's shotgun, liked it and bought one here on the forum from a member. the Mesa is a quality stock for my 870P, and i do like it's feature of quick LOP adjustment without sacrificing quality of the stock. Limbsaver makes a slip-on pad if further assistance is desired for felt recoil. on the other end of the spectrum, i have an old factory OEM Remington metal LE folder for my ancient Wingmaster... just for the pain of it.

Thank you everyone for all the helpful info. My plan was to shoot it the way it came straight out the box. After messing with it for a few minutes at turners I know for sure I want change the stock and add a pistol grip.

Does Mesa make the highest quality products?

They make the best metal side saddle, but these days, Velcro side saddles are better than mounted. I advise checking 3gungear.com. Most 3 gun people are using those lately

I guess I lean toward the other side of the spectrum. A light, caddy's for extra shells (side saddle), heat shield and a red dot sight. To be able to see at night, shoot more than 8 rounds, not get burnt and get back on target faster makes sense to me....and I have no regrets. I also have the Knoxx recoil system with the adjustable length of pull is a sweet set-up.

As for HD loads, 00Buck and 1 oz rifled slugs (a 50 caliper hollow point!). By the way, slugs are also good for close quarters. I suggest using the same for the range and train with the real world recoil. The 870 might have a tough time with clays as the barrel is too short.
