Mossberg 590 Recoil Reduction

I have a Mossberg 590 Special Purpose shotgun. I have a limbsaver on my stock but still after 10 shots of 00 buck it starts to bother me Was wondering if you guys know any cool stock that help reduce recoil and looks cool too

The only other stock I can think of is the Knoxx stocks. They have the SpecOp and the CompStock which have a spring loaded buttplate to take some of the recoil. Some like it, more dislike it - as it gives a sense of disconnection from the shotgun during recoil and often leads of a heavy cheek slap.

Have you tried adding weight to the shotgun with a sidesaddle and a buttsaddle? How does the shotgun fit you? I personally find the 14+ inch stock LOP way too long.

+1, I've fired many rounds of buckshot and slugs through my mossberg. Even with the stock buttstock it had never hurt my shoulder. Try out some different shooting techniques, such as this

Makes sense on the disconnection.... but yes I have 6 shot side saddle on it and stock wrap saddle.

Adding weight to the gun will reduce the recoil. Use reduced power tactical loads. Make sure the gun stock is the correct length, and fits you properly. Go on a diet and put on about 50 pounds. Switch to a semi auto shotgun, or a 20 gauge. Did I miss anything. As suggested above, modifying your shooting technique will certainly effect perceived recoil, and should be the first thing you address. The 12 gauge pump shotgun with rapid continues fire will beat up just about anybody with full power loads if you are not consistent with proper hold and body position every time its fired. The limbsaver butt pad is about as good as it gets from my experience. Pretty soft and absorbs quit a bit of energy. Most of the 3 gun shooters I know use reduced power tactical loads. Not so much because the recoil bothers them, but they can get back on target sooner. Recoil is the nature of the 12 gauge beast, and why they are so effective and fun!

Try shooting an old Winchester with "recoil reducing" metal for the buttplate

I tried this technique and made all the difference. Dramatic reduction in recoil.

I took a 2-day Shotgun class with a Mossberg 500 and Knox Spec Ops stock. As far as recoil reduction, it worked great, and was barely sore after 200+ rounds (about half of which was 00 Buck and slugs). The cheeck slap thing was an issue, but not too bad.

My problem was with the pistol grip...IMO a pistol grip stock is a bad setup for a Mossy 500. The controls (safety and slide release) are located in such a way that you must contort to use them, I found it a huge pain, especially when doing drills where you are clearing malfunctions and safety on/off all day long. With a standard type stock, I think the control placement is a big selling point for 500's.

I switched to a Blackhawk Compstock (recoil reducing version of a Hogue Overmoulded) and love it. I dig the rubbery Hogue forend that comes with it too.

but also check out the mesa tactical stock kits built around the enidine hydraulic shock absorber. they're a bit spendy, but they really do the trick.
