    Good shotgun?

im deciding if im in the market for a shotgun. this might sound like im looking for an all in one package because that would be nice. the uses i would have (does not have to meet all just most) for it are, home defense, skeet/trap shooting (never been but if i have a shotgun why not) hunting of large game and birds. it must have aftermarket options (pistol grips stocks ect.) i would like a rail on it for the mounting of optics also. i know very little about shotguns so correct me if im wrong in expecting all this out of one firearm. i also do not totally understand the uses of smooth vs rifled barrels and are some shotguns able to do barrel changes to be able to use both? my budget would be under 500 ideally but i would go over a little if there is something out there i just must have.

Your very best bet of accomplishing all of the above is to get a Remington 870 and some extra barrels.

You can also get 2 shotguns. One for hunting/sporting and another for HD

I'd say your best bet would be... Either a Remington 870 or Mosberg 500
I'd say the 500 over the 590 because there are more barrel options for the 500...
I own two 500's and they are great. I bought 2 Big5 combo specials... each came with an 18.5"(HD) barrel and a 28" vent ribbed barrel(Trap/Skeet)
Now I'm looking at buying a 590A1... but we'll see what the wifey says about it

Remington vrs Mossberg is equal to Ford vrs Chevy.... You'll never find the right answer.... Go to a gun store and hold each. Feel what suits you best.... When it comes to Shotguns, a 12 gauge is a 12 guage. In a home defense scenerio, being able to hold the shotgun up for more then 25 shots is not an issue. In a round of Skeet or Trap it is.

Like I said hold each and see what feel more comfortable..

Yea just get the Rem 870 w/ the 18" and 26"(or 28", i forget) and just keep the short barrel on until you go hunt/skeet/etc. And for the record, it's Remington and Chevrolet But that just me, to each their own.

Benelli M2 with a tactical barrel and a field barrel. It's only money.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Both the Remington 870 and Mossberg 500/590 are great guns. Depends on what you want it for. If you are just looking for HD the Mossberg in my opinion would be better.

Nobody with enough sense to drive a Ford would would be silly enough to select a Mossberg over a Remington.

I think both are fine shotguns.

More of a HD/Defense only shotgun. You can do sporting clays and the like, but it wouldn't be the best choice.

Get a Remington 870 and some extra barrels. You want a pump gun for home defense. A pump gun and good ammo will give you no problems.

...not to mention the fact that you could buy 4-5 Mossbergs or Remingtons for the MSRP of the Benelli M4...
