Win model 12 price check

I'm looking to build a "survival shotgun" from an old and forgotten model 12. Found a guy that has seven of them, the worst off with a cracked stock has an asking price of $295 (no bluing left). The one I'm after has great looking wood with no bluing but functions great but has an asking price of $350. Is this reasonable?

If your looking for a survival shotgun IMHO i think you would be better off going with a newer 870 or 500. They never fail and parts are cheap. Also you would see a lot less tears from people who have a soft spot for old shotguns kept in there original form.

If i were to pick between the 2 you mentioned i would not **** up the good wood and go with the one with a cracked stock. purists (myself included) would cry if you chopped and parkarized an old model 12

I concur with the "don't chop the model 12 sentiment".

That being said, if you're looking for one because it's easy to take down into two halves and pack there are other take down guns available. Plenty of Win 97s have already been 'upgraded' for cowboy action stuff, and Steven's made a couple of take down guns as well under various names.

You could also just get an 870 without a mag extension and take the barrel off for packing.

Anyway, that's a good deal for the nicer shotgun according to all of the online sites (people are asking way too much I think) but is pretty average for what I've seen in person on store shelves.

Those prices seem about average for Cali. Stocks could be found on gunbroker or ebay.

lol yea those stocks on ebay go for a minimum of 100 (if you are lucky) and up to as much as the whole gun cost you.

Boyds makes a stock but it is not an exact look match and good luck matching the stain and finish to your fore end.

OP those prices are about right, people love these things and generally don't give them up for cheap.

I was lucky to get a M12 a couple months ago that has already been chopped to 26ish. But the threading for the chokes on it cut the barrel too thin. So I do not feel guilty having the barrel chopped down to 20"

Built like a tank, 6+1, slamfire and takedown make them a very attractive shotgun. Can't beat old blued steel and wood.

I used to have a M12 which had two barrels- one short, one long, you could swap them for defense or target

That said, it rusted easily, and felt a little delicate. I sold that and picked up an alloy receiver Mossy for defense. Cheap, good, and I still have two barrels for that one
