I purchased a shotgun at Big 5, and I finally picked up my shotgun after ten day waiting period. My question is how do I register my shotgun? Although I know that you don't have to register your shotgun, I need to register my shotgun because I'm taking it to my military base, and XOs in my unit told everybody that we need to register all of our firearms.

Ask them where they want you to register them. It could simply be that you have to "register" them with the base. If not, there is a voluntary registration form on the DOJ website.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor
California DOJ Certified Fingerprint Roller
Ventura County approved CCW Instructor
Utah CCW Instructor
Offering low cost multi state CCW, private basic shooting and reloading classes for calgunners.

I think you have to register your shotgun or any other firearms if you live on post and barracks. But if you live off post, no need to register it.Comment

Dude..reconfirm with XO. Usually registration is with the base cops.
In Calif, there is not (right now) a registration of long guns, either voluntary or involuntary. As noted, you can file an ownership doc, but that isn't registration.
See FAQ #26:
Public Where do I find laws regarding the possession of firearms? I'm not sure whether I have a California record that would prevent me from owning/possessing a firearm. Is there a way to find out before I attempt to purchase one? What is the process for purchasing a firearm in California? How can I obtain a Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) license? Can I give a firearm to my adult child? Can he/she give it back to me later? Can I give a firearm to my spouse or registered domestic partner? Can he/she give it back to me later?
Form is at:
Fee is $19.
HSC exemption codes are:
Firearm Safety Certificate Program Links to Topics below General FAQs FSC Program DOJ Certified Instructor FAQs Firearms Dealers' FAQs Certified Instructor Training (Comparable Entity) FAQs General FAQs What are the Firearm Safety Certificate requirements? What are the exemptions from the Firearm Safety Certificate requirement? If I already have a Handgun Safety Certificate, do I still need a Firearm Safety Certificate?
But recheck what the XO really wants you to do, first. (If they still want "registration", produce the receipt showing you paid for Dealer Record of Sale (DROS) and call it happy.
