I'm new to the game of shotguns, been a pistol and rifle man since my interest in firearms developed 3 years ago. But as we all know with the gun grabbers and ammo hoarders, it's pretty dang expensive to shoot anything nowadays. Hence my new avenue: shotty's

My buddy is a shotty man and has always tried to convince me to try out his Maverick 88. I opted out... Til recently. I noticed the lack of stock on his shotty and was like WTF!? I've seen folks at the range barely handling what the 12 gauge has to give with a stock. And here's my buddy with a simple chicken head looking pistol grip. I laughed at first but I wrapped my hand around it and man! This felt natural and the texture felt great. After 20 rounds back to back, I am a believer. The recoil was not as bad as I thought! It was more of a push than a shock as if being grabbed but still maintaining confidence and control of the beast. Kinda like walking my pitbull after I trained the SOB to not lunge. I asked who makes it?! Buddy says why? Cuz you want one don't you! Me being coy and cool said ...maybe

Needless to say I got the maverick 88 and went to Shockwave Technologies website and ordered one because I loved it so much! I got the fricken shotty 'cause of the grip lol

There was a time where people would give you sh*t for saying "Shotty". I guess those days are over.

With that said, I too have a Raptor grip for my M590. Previous grip was a factory pistol grip and the raptor grip is hands down the best grip you can buy for not just Mossbergs but any shotgun in terms of ergonomics.

With Speedfeed no longer making their Birdshead grip for the Mossberg platform(s), I am glad that Shockwave technologies resurrected this grip from the dead. Looking to get a generation 2 grip for my JIC mossberg soon.

I have shot the birdhead grip in a class before.

I shot about twenty to thirty birdshots, shooting from the hip, 10-15ft to target, no sore wrist nor anything, actually was kind of fun.

And then I shot about twenty 00 buckshots, that was quite some kick -- the area between my thumb and index finger of my gripping hand was sore and tingling, rest a minute and the sore was gone, not really enjoyable but tolerable.

i have the same Raptor Grip on my Maverick 88 8 shot as well. there isn't much more recoil shooting high brass, than with the regular, shoulder stock.

there are, however, a couple things that i plan to do to the Raptor grip to make it better, IMO.

the weight of the grip is nice and has a solid feel, but i'll add grip tape to combat sweaty palms. at the same time, i want to sand down the part of the grip right where it meets with the trigger assembly. your finger(s) can get a little scraped up/raw when firing (then again, the grip tape might help with that altogether).

i know they leave a sling loop off the grip so that the user can put the sling loop wherever they please, but it'd be nice if they had that as an option for people.

all in all, a great grip, it doesn't hurt the wrist like actual pistol grips do, and you can still access the Mossberg safety on top of the receiver.

I have one in factory remington wood, and it looks awesome. I rsally like the portability of the gun. much nicer than a typical pistol grip.
