    Looking for an O/U

I searched a bit and didn't find much so I figured I'd make a post. I shoot trap maybe every other weekend. Sometimes 3 times a month. My wife has a Supernova which works well for her, but I hate. I will never use this shotgun for waterfowl and will be busting clays only. I'd like to get into an over under due to the simplicity factor, and I will be shooting at most doubles.

I'd like to stick to the $5-700 range but I've only found a few models in that price range, mainly the Mossberg Silver Reserve and the Stoeger Condor.

Maybe someone can steer me in a good direction!

I'd look at used. O/Us are one of those funny guns where a $1000 one is twice the gun of a $500 one. I have had:

    Valmet 412ST
    Beretta 686 EX Gold Trap
    SKB 585 Gold
    Browning Citori GTS
    Stoeger Condor

Out of all three, I liked the SKB the best out of the bunch and sold or gave away to my dad and brother the others. It was also the least expensive of the three. The other two were very well made, but O/Us come down to fit over anything else. I think you can find an SKB for under $1,000 used. That would be my vote. I am VERY happy with my SKB. SKB is made by Miroku, who also makes O/Us for Browning.

      Read this thread.

I did a lot of research and bought a Lanber.
It cannot be inherited, nor can it ever be purchased.
You and no one alive can buy it for any price. It is impossible to rent and cannot be lent.
You alone and our own have earned it with...Your sweat, blood and lives. You own it forever.

      The title is....."United States Marine".

A decent O/U for under 1K is tough. I would also agree with looking at a used gun. Take a look at this listing for a Verona. Verona's were made by F.A.I.R. and imported under the Verona name. Great gun for the money! I have the same gun in 16ga (with a silver receiver) and it's my favorite shotgun.

I just bought a Lanber as well, the Lanber 2097 from CDNN and am pretty happy with it too.

Came out to 670 + tax + whatever your dealer charges you for transfer.

I'd go with the Lanber in that price range

There occasionally are some good deals here on nice used guns. Unless you want brand new, pawn shops and the consigments can be a place to check as well.

Take a look at a used BT-99 if it is going to be used for trap.

                      ><

Since your at the range quite a bit, your best way to approch this is to try as many guns as you can. Most shooters will be glad to let you use their gun for a bit to try them out. You will find one that feels good in your hands and comes right up to your eye with no effort and breaks clays when you shoot it.....thats the one for You. Also, be sure to ask if the owner had the gun altered in any way......you want a gun that is off the rack so you can buy the same one and not have to send the money to have it fitted.

Step two...as stated above.......Buy once, cry once

I was looking to stay in the same price range as you when I bought my O/U. After a lot of research, I went with the CZ Redhead Deluxe. Tons of good things to be said about this gun. Havn't had any problems at all with it. I noticed a lot of guys with super expensive trap guns, will buy the CZ to use as a hunting gun when they don't want to mess up their expensive gun. To me, this meant they must trust the quality of the gun as much as their expensive gun. Comes with 5 chokes. I paid about $800 out the door. A little more than I had planned, but couldn't be happier!

I have a Weatherby Orion for sale. Bought in the late 80's and it has never been shot. Still have the original box and all paperwork. 12 guage, 28" or 30" barrel, can't remember, with three screw in chokes. This gun is brand new, will sell for $950 shipped to your f.f.l.
                          Thanks
