A shotgun hard case and lubricating its barrel

What airline approved hard case for flight do you guys recommend for my Mossberg 500? Do you think this hard case (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1) is acceptable for flight? Also, I'm wondering if any of you lubricate a shotgun barrel. I don't lubricate the barrel most of the time.

I would recomend spending a lil more money and get yourself a metal gun case like this http://www.amazon.com/Plano-53-Alumi...ong+rifle+case the plastic case might shatter when thrown on and off planes etc and by lubricate you mean oil the outside and inside of the barrel ?? if so yea I do that to pervent rust

I personally would choose a more durable case than the Flambeau. It seems more like a case you'd use to take a gun to the range than for air travel. Baggage handlers are like gorillas in a china shop. I also don't care for aluminum cases. They get bashed up and bent pretty easily. They also look like hell after a couple trips. I would spend about $30 more and get something like this Plano.

You also might consider something with wheels. If you have far to go, a gun case and gun can get mighty heavy. But wheeled cases start to get costly ($150 to $300).

And yes, wipe a thin layer of gun oil on and in your barrel to help prevent corrosion.

But they're worth it. You'll have it for the rest of your life. These guys also have a "closed cell" foam option which is more better. Closed cell foam doesn't hold moisture like open cell foam does. I also find it easier to cut if you're going to do that sort of thing.

Pelican is IMO the best, in my line of work we use the cases for everything. And on a second note. They are headquartered here in Cali. (Torrance) to be exact.

+1 for a better case and for oiling the barrel, in and out. I find shotguns can rust easily.

I use a Pelican. As for the barrel, I spray some Ballistol down it and run my boresnake through it.

I keep that barrel oiled but mop it out before shooting. I've been taught that shooting an excessively oiled barrel can result in dangerous pressure increases.
