    3 gun noob

was thinking of doing 3 gun for fun competition. I have a benelli m4. should I use it or would a longer barrel shot gun be more suitable. do you need a pump action in 3 gun?

Bring what you got. The M4 will be fine to start out with and you could start out with an IC choke. Modified would help with longish shots on steel so it would depend on the course of fire. Mostly IC is fine.

Barrel length can be a personal preference and what might actually slow you down (shotgun-wise) are the ghost ring sights. For 3-gun, vent rib barrels are usually preferred with possibly some type of rear sight dovetailed to help line up the few slug shots you may encounter.

Do some research. Yes a shorter barrel is typically easier to manuver.

If you want to compete in Heavy Metal Class it requires a 12 ga pump (45 cal pistol and 30 cal rifle). Add a fiber optic front sight to your Benelli, it helps for the long slug shots the close ones are pretty much point and shoot, and you will be GTG until you know if you like it or not. I started out with an 870 and now shoot it heavy metal, and an 1100 for open.
