Question about Labrador Retrievers

My uncle, a purist, swore up and down that a Lab was a duck dog and only a duck dog and nothing else. However, a book I used to have about this breed about 15 years ago claimed that labs were just as good in the uplands for pheasants and grouse as they were for ducks and geese.

Does anybody here use Labs for pheasants?

My dad uses labs for many birds in North American that was unfortunate enough to get shot out of the sky. His 4 generations of Labs (he has had them for longer than I have been alive), have done a great job with ducks and geese in freezing waters and pheasants in cut fields. They also make great quail dogs if you keep them cool.

It's a RETRIEVER it is in their breeding to RETRIEVE things for hunters. Did you actually read this book you claim to have had or did you just use it as a coaster?

people use them as flushers in hunting upland and some retrievers are used as "pointers". To my understanding they don't actually point but either stand in the direction of the bird, hopefully someone can chime in and explain it better or just google pointing lab.

My female choco lab is phenominal on pheasants and especially in heavy cover. She will enter berry patches the size of a bus and if there is a pheasant in there she will flush it or come out with it.

no not really stalking if you click on new post tab and 8-9 of john moons threads pop up all asking dam near the same ??s hes either a troll or just licked to much lead based paint as a child ,,,,, ill let you be the judge
