Varminting with shotguns.

here is a video of a guy blasting squirrels away like there is no tomorrow with a shotgun: I did not think ground squirrels would let you get within shotgun range: I have only shot them at no less than 100-yards with a rifle at a fellow's ranch years ago in a wide-open field

is it also possible to get within shotgun range of coyotes?


It would seem more economical to varmint with shotguns coz good varmint rifles along scopes, bipods and other accessories can get expensive: pump shotguns and promotional shells can be had cheap

what are some good varminting shotgun gauges and chokes for:

ground squirrels, rock chucks and coyotes?

does a 12-gauge pump or autoloader with improved cylider/modified/ full screw-in tubes work for everything?

i use an iron sight 22 if you got good enough eyes its easy enough but takes some practice

for a 12 gauge i run an extra full turkey choke and trap loads for squirrels. drops em everytime. for squirrels they key off movement so if you setup 40 yards from a hole and sit still for and wait they will pop their disease ridden heads lol

coyotes you just gotta call in nice and good. use #2 shot size or larger for best results and adjust range accordingly to shot size. keep still and call them in and keep downwind of the yotes.

I have heard of Labrador Retrievers used for that purpose.

nope. as far as im aware you may not use live animals for bait. ask in hunting a fishing and you might get a better answer with F&G code numbers

if you dont want nasty fur shoot em in winter where there is snow. the winter coats are infinitely better than summer coats. thats how my bobcat is, winter coat is extremely soft from the cold weather round here

Not a coyote hunter, but it seems if you want to use a shotgun on them, wouldn't a slug be optimum?

Regarding the smaller critters, I would assume you can run a pretty inexpensive .22lr setup and do just fine.
