need shotgun recommendation

I need a shotgun or rather it's for my wife. I'm not too sure what to get and would like to get some advice.

It will have to fulfill 2 roles:

1. Home Defense
2. Shooting clay

It will have to be in the following spec:

1. 20 gauge
2. wife really really wants the pistol grip with the adjustable stock.

What shotgun best fulfill this role? I know home defense warrants a shorter barrle and long barrel is better for shooting clay. Also that I've never seen a pistol grip on the sporting clay range so I wonder how that would play out also. Is there a compromise shotgun in there somewhere that will fulfill this criteria and work for both?

She probably doesn't know what is best so you need to guide her in her right direction. I would scrap the pistol grip stock idea. Take a look at the Charles Daly youth 20Ga 22" barrel semi auto. It is gas operated so less recoil and the barrel length is good for both home defense and shooting clays.

Mossberg 500 combo 20 gauge comes with an 18.5" barrel and a 28" VR Barrel
The mossberg is alot lighter then the remingtons due to the aluminum receiver

Let her try it with the conventional stock first, then see if she wants a pistol grip with adjustable stock.
I've shot trap with mine quit a few times, once you get use to it it's no problem... It's just a little harder to see down the barrel without a spacer to change the comb of the stock...

Buy the Benelli semi auto in 20, they are light, fire and eject every time you pull the trigger, you won't regret spending the extra bucks, in fact you'll probably shoot it more than her once you buy it.

Depending on how petite your wife is, she might be able to handle something like a Remington 11-87 in 12 gauge, especially if it's fitted with a good pad. I've got to think the 12 would be better for sporting clays--it certainly would be for defense.

I'd also skip the pistol grip/adjustable stock idea.

You could also give some thought to a low-end 20 gauge side-by-side with 26" barrels, like the Spartan guns from Remington. That's plenty of barrel length for sporting clays, but fairly easy to maneuver indoors because it would be shorter than a semiauto or pump with a 26" barrel.

1st Benelli M2 20 gauge youth model.

2nd Remingtion 20 gauge youth model.

You might have to buy an extra barrel for either of those. Youth models are hard to find mag extensions in case you're interested.

If your wife is tall/strong

1st. Benelli M2 20 gauge.

2nd. Remington 1100 20 gauge.

You might have to buy a second barrel mag tube extensions should easy to come by.

she finds the 12 gauge recoil harsh, and she was shooting 7&1/2 federal game load out of a 28'' barrel with a limb saver pad lol

she's petite, about 100 pounds and 5'6'', no arm strength, no grip strength
