Ok so I got my 500. Finally. Never should have sold my last. However my last was my hunting buddy. This one will be both hunting buddy and hd. It is a tactical persuader bought on sale at turners. I am going to get an at type stock, light, side saddle, and maybe some optics for slug hunting (bad guys) I need some help in picking the best possible and budget conscious in upgrade parts. Now the gun is stock with a pistol grip and that's it. Need good suggestions for all other needed equipment. Budget is $200. Suggestions?

"The right to buy weapons is the right to be free" -A.E. Van VogtTags: None -
I must add that Turning this into my hunting buddy is no issue. I was happy with my last.. It's the home defense part that has me baffled because there are so may options out there"The right to buy weapons is the right to be free" -A.E. Van Vogt -
Bring her home and get a feel for her before you go adding all this extra stuff you probably dont even need..
Its like a woman. You dont buy her fake boobs on a first date. You let her settle in.. Get to know each other. Blow some loads through her.. then add the necessary.
We all know the feeling getting a little itchy during the torture of the 10 day forcing us to get a shopping list going before she even comes home.Comment

Yea well the ford vs Chevy analogies always become full blown off topic discussions/pissing matches so I had to try and free style. Hopefully drove the point across haha
I've learned my lesson with all the tactical junk and have reverted back to basics every time. Just trying to save another guy from doing the same and potentially mess with the guns function and form especially being a HD weapon.

I would ditch the pistol grip if it's not one with a shoulder piece as well. I went with the ATI similar to the one below. You can get an AR type but they're pretty expensive. Side saddle on mine is a 6 rounder and is perfect for me. Messa or Tacstar is fine I think. I had to get a Hogue forend to allow for the Side saddle.
The barrel clamp from I think it was CDM to mount a light? I would go with the EL-338 weapons light from UTG it's a very good value for the price. A 200 lumen light, two bodies and a pressure switch for $50 . I have one for my AR it comes with another body so I asked the Wholesaler if I could buy another tale cap so I could use it as a hand held and keep the mount on my AR. He sent it for free LOL. link is the 2nd one. As for Optics the TRS-25 seems to be popular but you will need to drill and tap it more than likely.

OP since you already have a pistol grip on the gun you are covered for HD since a 20" barrel is already going to be a tick long for tight corners and the hallways of most homes your going to need it to stay short but depending on how tall you are and what you want to do with it there are options Hogue makes a really nice pistol grip and forend combo or if you want they make a 12" LOP stock for tactical / youth or shorter folks they also make a full length version or Blackhawk/Knoxx makes a Compstock that looks like a standard Hogue but reduces recoil by 54% which is what I have on both of my Mossbergs I personally tend to like the standard type of stocks on a Mossberg due to where the safety is located but to each their own. IMO a good 12" LOP Hogue stock ( if your not to tall for one ) and a decent Flashlight like a Surefire or something mounted to the mag tube with a quality mount that won't move with the recoil and your set for HD anything else is going to weigh it down or get caught up on stuff just my 2 cents

You did read the part where he said he had about $200 right?"Men sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

Yes I can read lol
a brand new standard 500/590 Hogue stock set is under 75$ shipped if you shop around even less if you get one used and one of the cheaper poly Surefire G2 flashlights that are 50-60$ new will work for what he's doing and a good quality 1" light mount can be had for around 25-30$ so even though math isn't my thing last I checked that is still under his price point by about 40-50$
Thinking he is going to be able to buy decent optics and a mount for them and everything else he wants to do to it for under 200$ is a little unrealistic but still not unthinkable if he buys used stuff from other members and he has a newer Mossberg model with a tapped receiver already then he can get a cheap no name brand receiver rail for it and a less expensive type of red dot that will take the recoil of a shotgun and he is set - don't get me wrong if he is stuck on new everything he will be limited to junk but if he is willing to wheel and deal and shop around in the used parts section he should be just fine he can always wait to do optics later on

I wouldn't waste money on optics for a HD shotgun....But that's just me.
The optics may slow you down in close defense situations. I know I'm much faster with just the simple bead in CD applications.
Eventually, you may want to replace the plastic saftey switch with a metal one. I've snapped or lost the plastic ones before.Last edited by HOGLEG; 03-15-2013, 4:21 PM.Comment

Yeah pretty much why I left optics off the HD set up unless it has a rifled slug barrel and or your shooting mainly slugs longer distances they will just be in the way good point HOGLEGI wouldn't waste money on optics for a HD shotgun....But that's just me.

Cheapest surefire I saw was $87.50. Cheapest mount for the light was CDMs $40. Cheap ATI stock was $35, Forend because to use a Sidesaddle he'll need a shorter one $15, Sidesaddle call it $20. That's what $197 without optics.
Cheapest optic I would use on a SG would probably be the TRS-25. But the other guys kinda right optics on a SG are a little pointless at defense ranges."Men sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

Here are the links to basically do what I was talking about ( but brand new ) and or for a little more (7-10$) one could get the Hogue stock and forend combo / package deal if he wanted the forend also hope these help the OP out - before shipping costs its roughly : 135.87$Cheapest surefire I saw was $87.50.
