Mossberg Heat Shield on an 870?

I HATE my ATI heat shield. Keeps loosening up and scratching the finish. I finally removed it. My buddy has a Mossberg 500 with a heatshield that has never had any problems. If I bought a Mossberg HS kit for my 870, would I have any problems installing it?

    thanks

Yeah I've read alot of bad things about the ATI heat shield...
I can try and get some close up picturesof all the mounting points of my heat shield on my 500's barrels and you can compare to yours...

I'll get back to you tonight...
Unless someone can give you an answer yay or nay....

If I cant remove my heat shield from my 590 for disassembly, I don't know how someone can put one on directly.

Must be one of those things where if you put it on the first time, it's not going to come off and it's there permanently.

btw, One of the reasons I bought a mossberg was because of the Heatshield. Forget ergonomics, a heat shield equipped 590 looks mean.

The thing is...once the heatshield is installed, it's very hard to remove w/o scratching the barrel or completely changing the curvature of the heatshield. As for the mossberg heatshield fitting on the 870, it should fit. Aftermarket heatshields fit both the 500 and 870, so by that same token, they should be compatible.

Question.. have you ever fired the gun enough to REQUIRE a heat shield? Personally I have but leather gloves generally protect me from any heat related issues. Actually the gloves are those thin leather batting gloves...

Yes, and I would rather have a heatshield than use leather gloves, personally. Mossberg installs them on there shotguns for a reason.
