Are Big 5 Mossbergs Different?

Every 500 I bought from Big 5 had the receiver drilled and tapped. The 500 combo with 18.5" and 28" barrel is on sale there for $339 this weekend.

cheaper stock no slide action tube assembly ...at least not on the mossberg 500 combo.

i changed out my stock and ordered a slide tube assembly for mine.

also the combo can't have the mag tube easily extended...so yes they are different

The 20" version has the removable forend so no action tube assembly is necessary / needed to change the forend and I'm pretty sure it comes with a pistol grip but the stocks on Mavericks and Mossbergs and everything else for that matter are basically the same since one is just a sub division of the other company one just offers a cheaper version with a different name / badging and slight differences to cut costs the type with the fixed forend is just the newer version and is made that way to save costs to make it more available since most people just throw them in a closet just in case and are never going to alter them past a point they sell this version all over the country nothing specific to Big 5 or different than the normal gun store would have its just the basic base combo model.

The mag tube can not be extended on any of the 500 models with the exception of the Chainsaw or Tactical breacher model or a 590 / 590A1 variant and they don't sell those at Big 5 as far as I know so that also isn't really a difference over what they sell elsewhere ether.

As for the receiver not being tapped I find that pretty weird since I thought all Mossbergs past certain date were tapped maybe it was to keep costs low in this market or to meet supply and demand only Mossberg knows. It shouldn't be a deal breaker though really since there are many Gunsmiths who can tap it for you at a later date or they make all kinds of aftermarket solutions like stock kits with rails or receiver type scope mounts or side saddle receiver railed combos but realistically if this is for HD you aren't going to want optics on it anyhow since those are really only useful if you have a rifled barrel and or are shooting slugs at longer distances and even then depending on who you talk to even that is debatable.

Have you seen the newer 870's Remington is producing Mossberg isn't the only one cutting corners or who has low standards

My big 5 500 was d&t'd and has the removable foreend. Bought it 2-3 years ago though. 20" barrel persuader.
