    930 SPX Cycling Question

I finally got my new 930 to the range to run a variety of different rounds through it to figure out what the gun likes. Issue is, the gun did not cycle Hornady low recoil buck shot. When I mean did not cycle, I mean the bolt didn't move far enough back to even try to eject the shell. It also had some issues ejecting some low brass #8 loads that I had laying around.

The gun has a blue gas spring under the gas port section of the barrel. I read that the new springs are red, but the gun was new and as far as I know, was recently built. I also cleaned the snot out of it before shooting it, and when I did, I made sure the gas system was as clean and dry as I could get it.

Is this normal for a 930 SPX? Will this clear up with break-in? I have heard of others with their guns shooting even junk walmart target loads.

i put 40 round of 00 buck thru my new spx and it chewed them up fine. I have heard that you need to break it in with high power loads and then it will cycle anything.

I also cleaned it before shooting it and boy was i glad i did. The gun was filthy!

It's a new gun, things still have to break in. Also, it is a gas operated shotgun, so it may have trouble shooting loads with less powder (birdshot/low recoil buckshot) at first.

OP you have any more info on that red spring discussion? I did some googling and only came up with one thread and some guy posted about (black, yellow, red and blue) springs but the replies are that even guys with new production guns still come with blue.. So it can't be a new production addition. I see that they say it "should" be a fix for light loads but it was kind of a guess no real concrete evedence to fully confirm or deny.

Also anyone have any polymer op rods break? A buddy of mine said he had issues wih his polymer OP rod snapping and got a lemon. So he ditched it. Sounded slightly bitter so ill take that with a grain of salt but has anyone else had that issue?

the only trouble i have is with Winchester universal loads and low recoil buck,
I have the BlackWater edition. it eats all the other bird shot. the metal on the the universals gets pealed back like you took a can opener to it from the extractor trying to pull it back, they are just cheap in the quality department. and my Benelli wont cycle the low recoil buck shot either. so that is what it is, low recoil buck shot. i think its only 1150fps, good for a pump just not an auto loader
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

I shot about 25 rounds of full power slug when I got mines and it ate anything else I fed it after that. Mine has the blue spring.

I think its the under or part of the sleve connected to the barrel.

^This! If you take out the piston inside the sleeve attached to the barrel (just below the gas ports) there is a spring in there. Although I'm not sure how it would affect ejection/extraction since it seems to cushion the piston on the return travel after ejection. The only spring that might affect ejection/extraction is behind the bolt in the stock area.

I too have a blackwater with the blue spring and for the first 10 rounds I had two FTEs. This was with remington buck cause its an indoor range I have to use their shotgun ammo. Next trip I recleaned and this time used Winchester super x for 75 rounds. It just ate it up. Never had a problem since.

I don't think it cushions the return of the piston. I would have to take mine apart again, but I don't want to deal with the tube spring. If I recall correctly my piston just rams into the tab with the gas vents. If you feel before the blue spring there is a gas ring. I think it allows for gas bleed. The stronger the blue spring is, the more gas gets directed to the piston. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
