Benelli M2 Tactical Barrel?

Hey guys,

I've got a Benelli M2 Tactical that serves as my home defense gun. I just recently went with a friend to shoot trap (I used his shotgun) and I'd like to start going more often. Now I know the tactical barrel is bit short for trap being 20" but it does have adjustable chokes. I know I could probably use it the way it is all though it's not ideal. I was wondering if anyone knows if I could get a second barrel that I could change out for the range. It would be cheaper than buying another semi auto dedicated trap gun. Thoughts?

a lot of people really like this one. many different shotguns in that range that would be good for skeet in that price range. weatherby mossberg beretta maybe even franchi. see whats in your price range and give em a feel. everyone here talks about feel and fit when it comes to clay killers.

ummm...believe me ..i just bought another barrel....an M2 is really hard to beat compared to beretta or otherwise...especially if you want to do skeet or even pheasant with it. I just sucked it up and bought another barrel since they're interchangeable (not from early M1 but M2s are fine across the board)...M2s are diehard and reliable no matter what...even franchi and stoeger's fit and function are just not as clean as the M2....but if you don't have the $$ for a 26-28" barrel (really what you need for skeet or anything else)...then a cheap shotgun might work....but then it may not...

disclaimer: I intend to do the same and buy a 28" barrel for my m2. however I just wanted to inform him that he can in fact purchase a second dedicated clay gun if he so chose. m2 barrels are not cheap.

Buy the M2 Field barrel, I have an M1HK and had to also buy the Forend

ummm...believe me....don't believe this^^^post. You obviously don't own a Beretta or know anything about them let alone Brownings, Winchesters, Remingtons and yes even Mossbergs. There are plenty of good reliable shotguns that are affordable. I own Chinese, Russian, American and Italian shotguns ranging from $200 to $2000 and they all work perfect.

A few notes for you:
A. A lot, if not all, places have a min barrel length requirement to shoot skeet, trap or sporting clays. I'm fairly new to shotguns and sporting clays as well, but the place I've been shooting at has a min 26" barrel requirement. You made be able to sneak on but a pistol grip on your shotty will be a sure give away.
B. I fell in love with Benelli after shooting my buddy's M4 gas piston. I did a lot of research, in terms of a tactical or field/skeet length shotguns and settled on The Benelli M2 Field 26" because it was the most versatile. Long enough to use in a tactical situation (home defense or 3-gun) and for doing sporting clays.
C. Having gotten more interested in sporting clays, my 26" barrel is definitely on the short side. Most clay shooters are using 28, 30 or 32" barrels with extended chokes. Since you have a tactical length barrel, I would suggest nothing shorter than 28".
D. There are a lot of good shotguns out there but hell, you've got a Benelli engine under the hood so just go buy some new tires (longer barrel), rather than a whole new car. Hope that metaphor works for you.
