Rem Versa Max

Considering that the Remington versa max can hold 3 2 3/4" or 3" shells in the magazine plus 1 in the chamber (3+1)is it legal to hunt with in California? I don't believe it comes with a plug because that would limit the number of 3 1/2s that the mag would hold to just 1.
Any thoughts?

the common work around is finding an appropriate diameter wooden dowel cutting it the best size to block the mag capacity necessary and leave it in while hunting.

That may be the solution when hunting with 2 3/4s or 3". I was thinking more along the line of turkey hunting. Even though I plan to hunt with 3 1/2s the gun is still capable of holding 3+1 in the other 2 options.
