Yep, they're good, no question. Can't really go wrong with either one, and both companies have made pump-shotgun ownership very affordable.

This may well be why Hatsan decided to pattern their Escort shotguns after the Remington 870. Their execution of this basic design seems to be pretty good, so I'd also count the Escort among the "good, inexpensive shotguns".

+1 I would have no qualms of having either one with me at all

        Whew

I though this was going to be another "what shotgun should I buy thread"
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Agreed, but why a thread about it...?

Mossberg 500/590 yes, Remington 870 Express, not so much. There have been a lot of problems with the cheap version of the 870 in the last few years. The Wingmaster, on the other hand, continues to be an excellent shotgun.

Ya, basically equal. Though I wouldn't say they are the ONLY pump shotguns worth the money. In fact I think the Benelli Nova seems to be a pretty good value.

Recently picked up a Hatsan Escort pump during the mad purchase craze. Already have an old Wingmaster 870 and wanted a second one so my wife can join me in some shotgun def. classes. Big 5 was all out of 870's so I looked over the Hatsan. Same controls and feel of the 870 and felt solidly built. For $300, figured I would give it a shot. Very please so far.

i own both, a mossberg 500 and a remington 870 wingmaster. love them both
but the mossberg seems to produce more recoil, maybe because it's lighter.

Maverick 88 is very similar too the Mossberg 500. A lot of the parts are interchangeable. Mossberg owns Maverick and they are assembled in Texas.
Maverick gets great reviews. I would put them in the 'must look at' category.
