    Refinished AOW

I sent my (legally-owned since early 1988) AOW, a Wilson Arms WP870, to Metaloy last month to be TactiKote finished, mainly in flat OD green, but with the "trim" (receiver pins, bolt, trigger, safety, loading ramp, front sling plate) in flat black. See: http://www.originalmetaloy.com/

Here is what she looks like now:

This is what she looked like prior to the refinishing:

For those who are curious, the grip is a Speedfeed #0660, and the forearm is a Choate #01-02-02.

Maybe it's just the lighting, the old picture is lit very nicely while the new one is lit very flatly, but I like the original look better. As a matter of fact, I have a whole folder of AOW images I captured from all over the Internet and your original picture is one of my favorites.

That said, who cares what I think, it's your AOW and it still looks good. As long as you dig it, that's all that matters. Mine is coming sometime in the Spring or early Summer so I'll post images once I get it fixed up.

      Thanks for posting them.

        looks good, Ken.

I did like it blued (nore "elegant), but it looks all business now.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

As much as I like traditional blued finishes, Metaloy's TactiKote and similar polymer finishes are incredibly durable. That was the whole point of this exercise. The photo was taken outside using my cell phone, whereas the one that shows its original finish was done in "studio" conditions. If I were to retake the photos of this AOW under the same conditions, the impressions would be different. Anyway, this is one awesome firearm.

Do you shoot it much Ken? I am trying to plan on if my AOW, once I get it, will be shot as an occasional range toy with half a dozen rounds in a session or if I will really like shooting it a lot?

Do you shoot buck mostly or target loads just to play? I use a 1911 for HD so I think the AOW will mostly be for fun, making my friends shoot it so the concussion and recoil freaks them out, etc.

Looks great...I like the contrasting black bits, too.

I'm about a month and a half in to my AOW wait time...and I thought 10 days was too long!
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
                Come on...what harm??

                  Capybara, you wrote:

Given the close-quarters potential of AOWs like this, I wouldn't consider it a range toy. They are not difficult to shoot with the right technique. I haven't shot it recently, but shot it a lot in the past.

I have fired only buckshot through it, which is really what this type of weapon deserves.

Looks good! I've had mine about a month and still have not shot it yet. Did you put the bead sight or did yours come with it?

Looks great! I personally wouldn't want to shoot it much...
