legality of lead shot

shotgun and forums noob here. i know lead shot is illegal for waterfowl hunting, but is it otherwise legal and obtainable in california? if obtainable, is it sold by most ammo retailers?

i just acquired my first shotgun, and it's '50s vintage and lead shot only. i won't be doing any hunting, just guarding the castle and maybe blowing up some water jugs.

Most shotgun ammo is lead shot. Buy it where you find it. Legal in CA.

There are issues with lead when hunting in the Condor reserve areas in CA. Here's a link.

Lead shot is not restricted to own or buy, it may be restricted as to where you shoot it.

WalMart has plenty of it.

Likewise, if you ever do decide to take up that most noble and most honorable of all pastimes, shooting birds; non-lead alternatives that are safe for your 50's vintage shotgun exist.

If you are in the condor zone you can legally shoot rabbits with lead shot but not non game animals like ground squirrels or coyotes. I mentioned this because you said "guard the Castle". You can target shoot with lead tho. Good luck DR
