so whats the official ruling on adding mag tube extensions that bring the shotgun over 10 rnds to a non pistol grip semi auto shotgun?

other than for competition, why would you want to? The tube would be beyond a nice short barrel for HD that would defeat the purpose.

As to the law, many will argue that a tubular mag exempts the 10 round limit citing a bunch of BS legal mumbo-jumbo that no one can agree on. Don't believe it! or be the test case. Your decision.

Oh, wait. I forgot the cool factor

Go ahead and do it. Then the anti's will declare no mag tubes longer than the fore end. All of us with reasonable extensions will be screwed, and we'll see 3 foot fore ends offered.

I don't know, maybe try to live within the current regulations? Just an idea.

tube feed magizines are exempt from the HCM laws should be good to go
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Negative.

Only .22 Caliber and Lever Action tubes are exempt.
(So yes, a Lever Action shotgun's tube is exempt)
And its not HCM, the legal term is "large-capacity magazine"

            (A) A feeding device that has been permanently altered so that it cannot accommodate more than 10 rounds.
            (B) A .22 caliber tube ammunition feeding device.
            (C) A tubular magazine that is contained in a lever-action firearm.

I think pumps are ok to put extensions on but not auto-loaders. I see plenty of HD shotties with extensions. NM I can't count for S*** lol. I guess you would need a big A&* extension to get past 10 lol.

                Chaos47 is correct.

Extending the magazine capacity of a fixed tubular magazine of a pump-action shotgun, bolt-action shotgun or semi-auto shotgun to more than 10 rounds is considered manufacturing a large capacity magazine, which is a felony.

                For shotguns...
Only* fixed tubular magazines on a lever-action shotguns are exempt from this.

*Never seen/heard about a .22 caliber shotgun, so I left them out of this.

dam you guys are right(I didnt check the wiki I went on my crappy memory ) is there any reason to why they made 22 tubes and lever actions exempt but not shotguns ? seems goofy but then again it is CA

IMO it has to do with Politicians have no idea how firearms work they just go off of what is scary in movies. (Pretty much every semi auto rifle or shotgun in Terminator 1 is banned by name for example)

So they write a bill then someone says to them that what they wrote would include hunting rifles and they would not be able to get their bill passed. So then they make exceptions for somethings to make the bill seem more reasonable. Since a shotgun for hunting already has a capacity limit not much uproar is made.

The only thing to them more scary then rifles that you fire from the hip is shotguns that you do not have to aim! So IMO that is why they did not exempt shotgun tubes.

^The above is all just opinion and not based on any facts...

Never heard of a .22 Caliber shotgun either but just put it to be clear about what tube magazines are exempted. Even though this is the Shotgun Sub-Forum.

The lever-action firearm exemption was done as a reward for all the cowboy action shooter groups that supported the large capacity magazine ban.
