    Sub $900 semi-auto 12ga help

I'm shopping for a new hunting shotgun (dove, quail and duck mainly). I'm looking at Remington 11-87s, Winchester Super X3s and even Benelli Super Black Eagle IIs. The last is a bit out of my price range, even used, but they're freaking NICE. I've been keeping an eye open for a used SX2, but those don't seem to pop up too often.

Is there anything else I'm missing? Obviously the 11-87 is the cheaper option, but it's heavier and some folks seem to dislike them. The Winchester gets better reviews, but I have limited experience with them. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!!

Mossberg 930's aren't as nice as the Benelli's or some other others you listed but its definitely sub-900 dollar shotgun.

Check out the Beretta A300 outlander, very good feedback (I have the A400 Xtreme, its pricier cousin, great shotgun)

        Also Mossberg 930

        Don't forget the oldies but goodies like Rem 1100 / 11-87, X3s

(Gas guns like Beretta/Moss 930/Rem in general have lower felt recoil than inertia guns like a Benelli)

You might be able to get into a used Benelli for $900

Same boat here. We inherited a sentimental Mossberg 500 so decided to sell our Rem 870 with 18" + 28" barrel hoping to move to a SA shotgun for skeet/trap and later some bird hunting. Searches indicate that the 1100 is best for target but can't chamber 3" and the 1187 doesn't reliably cycle target loads. VersaMax sounds like the winner but I can't afford that dinner. Have not looked at Winchester or Benelli yet.

I got a Beretta 3901 a few years ago because I wanted an auto-loader that could shoot 3" shells if I wanted to duck hunt. It is the cheaper one but it is designed the same as the more espensive A391, but only around $650, and you can find them on sale for a little cheaper. I like it and its pretty easy to breakdown.

I bought my 1187 premier (blued and walnut) used for 650 with a full set of chokes. Couldnt be happier. Absolutely 0 problems and i love it. However i dont duck hunt im a strictly clay and upland guy

If you can get an X3 in your price range GRAB IT!!!! Don't own one but have shot one couple of times. Good light, fast gun and should be priced above your budget with the Browning maxus and Remngton VersaMax (both also very worthy guns.

Ive had an 11-87 for years, not one issue after thousands of rounds but heavy and a little slower than others. Has been relegated to back up gun for past few years.

Alot of people swear by the SBEIII's. Also a lot of people swear at them. Ive seen more than one that would FTF here and there which is a big no for me.

SX3 is amazing way lighter then my 11-87. Recoil and chamber speed is great.
I would wait for the right deal on an SX3 and pounce.

1187 is nice and I just started shooting trap/sporting clays I take it with me because the last time I took the SX3 I was the only guy with a camo gun.

GB and slick guns had SX3's for under 1k well worth it for a great reliable hunting gun that well eat almost anything you put through it.

                  GB

Also if your ever in SD your welcome to try either out to see what you like

Go over to shotgun world and look at the classifieds, I found a NIB Berreta 391 for 775 shipped last year.

Winchester Super X3 is the same gun as the Browning Gold Hunter, just without engraving, fancy checkering, and the marketing budget. Read up on the Gold Hunter and you'll want one... then give yourself a 30% off sale by buying the Super X3

I like my Beretta 391 but, I also enjoy hunting with my old 11-48s. I've picked up a couple of them for $250 or less and they eat anything, don't need to be clean to work and, I don't care if they get dinged up in the field.

how about a browning A5. I saw a used one at turners for less than $900.

Gunbroker is your friend. I have picked up Remington Model 11s on there in the sub-$300 range. And I have seen Browning Auto-5s, the Savage version who's model number escapes me at the moment as well, all in that same price range. If you look around, you can pick up a used one for a fraction of the price of a new shotgun. If you have your C&R, you can get it sent right to you. If not, it is still cheaper than new even with the transfer fees. Just something to think about.
