    remington 870 extraction issues

My 870 is having trouble extracting shells when the gun is hot. After shooting maybe 30 cartridges, it starts failing to extract fired shells. The extractor does not always grab, and when it does, the shell is stuck to the point that I need to slam the gun on the ground to extract. I've been shooting Federal bulk birdshot. I've already polished the chamber with steel wool.
I've read that the extractor can also be a problem. Where can I find a good aftermarket piece? Any other thing I should be looking at?

How many rounds do you have through it?

Mine self polished after about 150 rounds and doesn't stick anymore.

Trying using different ammo. My 870 hates the cheap Winchester birdshot from Walmart, but won't have problems with anything else. On the other hand, my friend's 870 hates the Walmart Federal birdshot but won't have problems with anything else.

Purchase a Remington non-mim extractor & depending on age, replace the extractor spring. Also, polish everytime you clean your barrel.

I have 300-400 rounds, mostly federal bulk birdshot from walmart through it. It's about 2 years old.

Try the "new barrels" process: http://www.aiptactical.com/Page_2.html

BTW, if you purchase a non-mim extractor, you may need to grind it a bit. Look at your existing extractor and the non mim one and you'll notice that the mim has a taper. The non-mim, if it doesn't have it, might cut a notch into your receiver.

Your extractor may be expanding from heat after use...
Or your ammo may use light guage metal and become distorted from heat.

Try using high brass or different loads b4 making other changes to test for consistancy. The 870 is a highly reliable platform. 10 million users cant be wrong.
