holographic red dot for 12 gauge?

i'm kinda dead set on getting a red dot (holographic) for my Mossy 500, however I dont want to spend $400+ on a real Eotech (yes, i'm a cheap bastard).

anyone have any experience running the Big 5 brand (i think its NcStar) or even the Eotech replica sights?

i'm concerned about the heavy recoil knocking the dot out of alignment more than anything...or even flat out breaking the sight.

    this is what i have been looking at so far;

    or

also, any other ideas for cheap sights would be highly appreciated....i'm trying to make the Mossy 500 a little more 'tactical' for all those clay pigeons i plan on murdering
If you suck with irons you will suck with optics. The difference is the aimpoint will allow you to suck faster and a scope will give you a closer look at how much you suck.

might wanna try primary arms brand. i've got their aimpoint micro clone, and its held up to 22lr, 5.56 and 12 gauge just fine. i'd trust it for plinking, definitely.

Go big or go home. Especially on a shotgun. Some of the highest recoil impulses in the firearm world. Honestly a good cheek weld and fiber optic hi viz bead will be as good or better.

I went that route when I first got my 12ga Mossberg 500… wanted to be a cool guy, and wanted to do it on the cheap.

The optic failed before I could finish a box of slugs… it was the same optic you are using here.

I also have a fake eotech, which would cycle on/off each time I took a shot. Apparently it jarred it enough to make the contacts on the switch toggle the optic on and off.

My last and final cheap *** optic was an NC Star pistol scope which was mounted on a Beretta U22 Neos that… the whopping .22LR bullet caused the reticle to shatter in less than 500 rounds.

If intend to use this shotgun for home defense, there is no way I could recommend leaving something like that on the gun.

After throwing money in the trash like that, everything I have purchase from that day forward were reputable optics from reputable manufactures with a good track record.

I agree with ExtremeX, save your hard earn cash and buy quality optics. My buddy bought a NCstar from one of the local gun show, and optics can't seem to hold zero.

i didnt realize how high up the nc star reticle is. seems impossible to get a solid cheek weld, which is vital to a 12 gauge...

my 870 home defense setup is an aimpoint 4moa h-1 on an american defense low mount, riding an EGW picatinny. the stock is a mesa tactical urbino stock with cheek riser and limbsaver pad. at least 4 hundred rounds through her, still perfect zero. micro's been constantly on for 1.5 years now, still bright as the first day.

kinda pricey setup, but i'm confident in how it works and would use it to defend myself with zero hesitation...

I'm also looking for a sight for my 500. I have a Burris Fastfire II on one of my 22s, which works well - although obviously the fact that it works on a 22 doesn't mean it'll last on a 12 gauge.

Ideally I'd like something of similar form factor to the Fastfire, but I'd prefer spending a little less than the Fastfire.

It'll mostly be a HD gun, but I have both 18.5 and 28 barrels and plan on doing some skeet, trap, and 5 stand with it - probably more rounds through it that way than of buckshot.

If I just get decent sights, I need 2 front sights - but optics would sit on the receiver, so I would only need one.

                      Any suggestions?

I just ran the Bushnell TRS-25 on my FN SLP and it held zero and worked just fine. Have some video on my channel, if you want more info.

either the burris or the vortwx sparc if youre gonna be cheap. at least the vortex has a lifetime warranty but I wouldnt trust it for HD.

Id go with a quality optic for your shotgun because of the recoil and cheap optics wont hold zero.
