Just brought home a brand new mossberg 500 and noticed that if I shake it a little I can hear the mag tube spring rattling around...is that normal? I know for sure it's not a problem with the forend

Yes take it out.
1) Half way "rack" your shotgun, meaning move the pump back half way.
2) Unscrew the cap on the tube.
Has a good example of how to get it out.

Well your spring should be under tension, and the follower is not going to fall in to rattle. Mossberg has a dowel that usually has some black keepers on it that can come loose and rattle. Strip it like suggested, clear the tube and reassemble. If it still rattles check your buttstock.Originally Posted by Sic Boy
