Total Costs when using sites like gunbroker.com?

Hi All,

I've been looking to buy a mossberg 500 or 590. I took a look at gunbroker.com, but i cant quite figure out what the total end cost would be to me. I know aside from the purchase price (and shipping), you will have to pay the FFL fee. Will there be a tax on the purchase as well? Any other costs?

If not gunbroker.com, does anyone know a good way for me to get a good deal on a 500 or 590?

On GB, the seller pays a fee

As the buyer all u pay is the $1.00 to verify that you are who u are by a charge of a buck to your credit card

In California the FFL is required to charge you tax on the purchase price of whatever you buy. Of course if the seller is willing to show a lower sales price you can pay less. In many cases its cheaper to buy a gun like that at a local gun shop. I've heard some FFL's won't transfer in something that they already sell. Look around, I'm sure you can find one!

Your local FFL will probably charge sales tax plus $50-60 in transfer fees which includes the CA $35 fee. The FFL can charge whatever they want for the transfer fee but the average around here seems to be about $60.

Got my Mossberg 500 at Big5 on sale last October, came w/ 2 barrels. $300 + $25 DROS and tax.

You just have to watch the paper for the sales. They have them all the time

Same deal here, I'm gonna read off my receipt:

Transfer + Dros: $70
Tax: $67.23

And this is after I paid 100$ to get it SSE'd (This was a Colt 1911).

Statewide extortion at its best. Seems like the DROS ain't enough for them, and I won't be surprised if they figure out some more anti-gun fees to tack on.

If it's from a Private seller on GB, you don't have to pay sales tax, if it's from a Gun Shop/FFL, then yes you have to pay sales tax + $25 DROS, plus whatever fee your local FFL wants to charge. For example (who I've used NUMBEROUS times - Mike is a great guy) OC Armory http://www.ocarmory.com/ charges $55 on top of the $25 DROS for a rifle. So you're paying $80 for the transfer. Plus tax if it's from a FFL.

Like others have said, if you can get it at a local shop like Big 5, prob will be cheaper.

And to take it a step further -In California the seller is legaly responsible for collecting and paying sales tax for the sale of any personal property.

If you have a garage sale, legaly you're supposed to be collecting sales tax on every item you sell and paying it back to the State & Uncle Jerry.

The tax is crazy! I bought a few handguns recently on GB and the fees with tax really add up.
