    Remington 870 barrel

    Hi,
I have a Remington 870 express, and looked into replacing the existing 28" barrel with a smaller 18.5" barrel for home defense, (when i have it at home and not hunting or clay shooting) .... Is is okay to do that? also what barrel and choke do you recommend for my usage? The one I looked at included the improved cylinder choke. Thanks

Should be fine! The IC choke is a very popular selection too. good luck!

Good advice. Also, don't pass up a CYL bore barrel which is essentially no choke; also a good/better choice for HD use.

this is the one I would recommend

it is $20 more than the one I think you are looking at but it has an interchangeable choke even though you would probably end up using an improved cylinder, I like having interchangeable chokes because I like to use a turkey choke and #4 birdshot for animal control.

I will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.

And this is what I sport. This would solve all your issues, OP. I get sights if shooting slugs and it's quick like a bead sight for close-in buckshot. At 100 yrds, I put five of six slugs on a paper plate and at 15 to 30 feet, typical house, the buckshot spread difference to my CYL bore barrel is negligible.
