    Mossberg 500 mag tube scratches

    Hi Calgunners,

just picked up one of those new Mossberg 500 flex system shotty last month. However, already running into a few issues with the gun. Not sure if anyone else is having the same issue with these guns or know what to do to fix it.

    1. Put about 35 rounds through it at the range (and another 20 pumps or so after oiling it soon after purchase). Already have excessive (imo) scratch marks on the mag tube. Which appears somewhat gold / bronze / brass color under it.

My concerns with the scratches is:
    A. is this normal?
    B. with the bluing somewhat rubbed off, will it rust under certain conditions?

    2. With only 1 shot in the tube, I pump to load the shell, sometimes the elevator assembly does not go down all the way to grab the shell. for it to work 65% of the time, I usually have to rack it a bit harder than usual. Speaking of racking it hard, that pump is not smooth at all.... gotta put a little back into it to rack it back.

I've shot many shotguns before and also own a 870, and never had this problem before.

    (luckily Mossy has lifetime warranty)

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you Calgunners.

    A: yes
B: yes but not enough to worry about

the more you pump it, the smother it will become. you have barley started to break the action in.

Its normal. If it rust your not shooting it enough lol jk. Well if you live in some wet and humid part of the country I would say just lightly rub some oil on the bare metal when you store it away for a long time.

Or let it rust and when you shoot all the rust will get rubbed off.

thanks for the feedback on the 1st issue.

anyone have any idea on the 2nd issue? could it also be a "break in" thing?

            2nd issue:

It just needs some time to break in. My Mossberg was similar in nature. But after 100rds everything got loosen up real nice and began to become smoother. Did you clean off the factory grease/oil?

I had cleaned off my friends Mossberg's factory grease and lubed it up. And it felt pretty smooth out of the box. It just needs some time to break in that's all.

            Have fun be safe.

It is still new. I would get a few spent shells cut the tops and fill them with bird shot mixed with silicone caulking. Or get some snap caps and use those to cycle through the action to break it in.

Yea this is normal for pump action shotguns.

I just picked up the same... since the barrel and foregrip easily come off. before you put back together, put some drops of oil and rub away... Will give it little sheen and protection too...
I picked up mine with a few scratches already so I dont mind but it is doing exactly what yours is on the action...
