    870 20 gauge DOB 1980

I have two Wingmaster 870's in 12 and 20ga, 2 3/4 cambers, they both have the same frame. The 20ga barrels fit on the 12ga frame.

When did Remington downsize the 870 20ga frame. Hope I am describing correctly. I want to buy a used 20ga barrel but not sure what description to look for in the adds. 20ga modern barrels have smaller mating flanges and barrel rings.

    Thanks

When the 20ga barrel is on the 12ga, do the 20ga shells extract ok?

In the mid to late 80's they changed frame sizes to a "lightweight" frame. I too have the old larger framed 20 gauge and actually prefer it over the smaller frame. I did seem to find an improved cylinder barrel for my wingmaster. A nice 26" bbl but it only handles 2 3/4" shells. I just have to be careful when I swap out barrels. My 30" bbl for the 20 was a full choke and I've since had it fitted (in the mid 90's) for Briley screw in chokes. It's a great gun. The good thing about it is that the mag tube extensions from the larger frame fit this model but not the newer ones.. I currently use it for local multi gun matches

Ok so the New frame is called "Lightweight". I just need to find a 20ga barrel that is not for a "Lightweight" 20ga. 870.

I like the large frame as well, better for followup shots.

        Thanks

Barrel is sized to fit a 12ga (large) receiver but I am sure you would not want to try and shoot 20ga out of a 12ga receiver.

I looked a few years ago and 20 gauge barrels for the larger frame 870s are fairly hard to find and the prices when you find them aren't cheap. I ended up having Colonial Arms put screw chokes in mine.
