Well I have a new never shot h&r single shot and the ejector wont work until I put a shim under the action to activate the locking block . Question is would you just shim it and be done or would you send it back to h&r??? Its new !! But the shim does work. What would you do? Please help.

shim under the barrel? and the gun is NIB sold as a set, or unfired barrel on some other action that was cobbled together at some point and sold ppt?

Nib....totally new!. There is an ejector locking block under the barrel and it wont engage with out a shim so I made one out of 16Ga sheet metal and now it works perfect but should I be ok with that or should I send it back...

send it back. I've only dealt with them for additional barrels, but they were professional and on schedule.

While it's back you can also waste more money on barrels. I REALLY recommend 357 mag and if you like lazy muzzleloading, the inline is great. I took my 357 mag, cut it to 16 3/8" and rechambered to 357 max. It's awesome and shoots small groups with ridiculous loads, like 250 grain bullets moving 1700 fps while still being a tack driver with 38's and gunshow 357 (loadX ammo is by far the most accurate ammo in the gun, pretty sweet shooting).

I suppose I forgot the justifiable reason. Because it's brand new, they should make it right for you. If you said it was a cobbled together model, used receiver (new barrel), anything else, then it might be worth keeping the home remedy. Basically, you fit the barrel yourself. Ever read www.go2gbo.com? big Handi community there, they fit barrels all the time.

But in this case its a product represented as new. You got a Friday Afternoon gun. Should be on them to fix it the first time. I'd be surprised if it took more than 5 weeks to get your gun back, even with whatever volume they must be dealing with right now.

Up to you. It IS a $200 gun, afterall. For me, it would be worth it. An excuse to get more barrels. As for CS, they were spot on for me. If they told me 8 weeks, I would expect that exactly.

I personally wouldn't mind the shim so much, but sending it back in for repairs does mean you can get barrels for other rounds, as Whiterabbit suggested.
