The ONLY stock remmy I know that has GRS is the 870P @ ~$750

You're better off having it done by Wilson/Scattergun Tech.

Can I suggest getting a 590A1 or a TPS... you'll pay less or equal and get more gun for the money.

I saw a FN TPS @ Socal Sharpshooters, for around $500, back in January.

Slightly off topic but be careful with 870's with factory ghost rings. If they are dropped or impacted on the ghost ring causing torque on the extractor, the extractor will break at the hole (weak point) used to rivet it into the receiver. This information is first hand from a large local LEA. The armorer has replaced over 30 of them in the past 3 years. He has brought the problem to Remington's attention on numerous occasions including a stink at the 06 Shot Show. Remington seems reluctant to redesign the extractor and thus far has not offered a fix so I took one of the extractors for Cryogenic treatment at www.cryogenicsinternational.com in an attempt to relieve stresses in the extractor caused by tooling the hole which I believe is punched as it is stamped. The 2 treated extractors were installed in department 870's December 07 and to date have not returned to the armory for repair. We'll see. I know most shooters don't plan on dropping (was leaning up against the tree and fell over) or impacting the ghost ring on a door jamb but be careful as the extractor is not a drop in piece.

how much did it cost you for the cryogenic treatment?

Charles at www.cryogenicsinternational.com is pro firearms did them for free as a test with the understanding that if we come up with evidence that the treatment helped he would charge to do all of the new ones.

If you have some parts to be treated give Charles a call, He is very personable.

Drawn - What the heck are you talking about dude? The rear GR sight is drilled and tapped at the end of the receiver. This has nothing to do with the extractor of an 870 which is on the end of the breech bolt over 6 inches away from the GR sight

What the heck am I missing here? Please explain.

If you mean the ejector housing then even that is BS as it has nothing to do with the GR sight. The ejector housing is riveted to the side of the receiver. The GR is drilled and tapped at the rear of the receiver and the screw do not even protrude into the receiver. Again, nothing you are saying makes sence.

I know these weapons as well as anyone on this site and nothing you have said makes sence the way you are saying it. I can beat on the rear GR with a hammer and it has no effect on any internal fuction of an 870. It would only FUBAR the GR which is a Wilson Trac II and not even made by Remington, they just use them on the 870P's.

I have read some messed up bad info on this site but this one takes the cake so explain it better 'cause as it stands it is not only incorrect but is rediculous.

I was kind of wondering the same thing - GRS has absolutely nothing to do with anything that was said.

you just fall back on your level of training.

Which ever GR sight you're thinking about, DO NOT put a "Trak-Lok" set on your 870. I know they are popular and Wilson puts them on his guns but they suck. First, they hang out with no protection from drop or bump damage. Second and most important to me is there are NO WITNESS marks on these sights so repeating a sight setting is next to impossible. LPA or Hans Vang's new in-house LPA clone is the best set up going. Next would be the Mossberg GR sights. But who wants a Mossberg sight on their Remington 870?
Have you considered "rifle sights" for your 870? That would only cost you a new barrel with the sights already installed from the factory. They are as accurate or more so than GR sights and almost as fast as a standard bead. Nobody hardly ever talks about the old rifle sights, but I have them on my Benelli M1 Super 90A1 first generation and I love'm.
Nothing beats a bead for pure speed. GR and rifle sights allow better slug sighting for distance shots (over 75 yards). I find for general purpose (and self defense) SG shooting the plain old bead is the way to go, the "busy" sights just slow me down :-)
Good luck and let us know what you end up with.
