    Age requirement for...

What's the age requirement to purchase a shotgun?
I always knew it was 18 but a friend of mine said that it recently changed to 21...:-/

It is still 18. It is 18 for all long guns and 21 for handguns. If you are unsure, just drive down to a gun store and ask them. They are usually more than happy to inform someone who is interested in firearms.

Dont hold me to this but I believe factory issued pistol grip shotguns are 21
That might be a store policy or a law I am not sure

pistol gripped shotguns are the only ones that could be questionable

Thanx guys! I already own a few shotguns but the question came up and one of the in-laws said that for 2013 you had to be 21...

no, for your "normal" shotgun it is 18 and I am positive on that

For pistol gripped shotguns I am not sure about

if you can buy an AR-15 at 18 you can buy a shotgun with a pistol grip at 18

Nope, 21 for a pistol grip shotgun.

It depends if the shotgun has a rifle and pistol grip it is 18 to purchase. If it only has a pistol grip it is 21 to purchase it.

The key word missing here is "stock" if the shotgun has a stock the age is 18. If it is a pistol grip only you need to be 21 just like stripped or complete lowers because the are not yet rifles.

                          Under Federal laws:
                          18 for rifles and shotguns
                          21 for handguns and others

A firearm without a shoulder stock and with an overall length of greater than 26" is a Title 1 other firearm.

A "crusier" style "shotgun" (pistol grip with no shoulder stock) is a legally not a Title 1 shotgun, it is legally a Title 1 other firearm.
Therefore, the minimum age to acquire one of those through a FFL dealer is 21, not 18.

Which brings up this question, if Quiet is correct, and im not disagreeing, if an 18 year old buys a stocked shotgun, then converts it to a cruiser style grip only, did he just commit a felony by possessing and illegal weapon due to his age? Or is the operative wording through an ffl?
                            They gave, so we have.

The operative word is probably purchase, not possess. Just like a handgun, an 18 year old can not purchase, but they can possess or own one.
