    Wrong length 410 shells

Hi; I bought shells today for a new to me .410 Win 37, I picked up 4 boxes of 2 1/2" instead of the 2 3/4" it takes, plus one box of 3" just to had insult to injury. Can I shoot the 2 1/2" without a problem??? I know NOT to try the 3". Will that 1/2" cause a problem when fired do you think. Thanks in advance for any info, Happy

What is marked on the barrel? You can shoot shorter then what is marked, but not longer.

The 2 1/2 should be fine. What are you shooting them in?

O/U or semi? I'm not sure what a 37 is.

Actually, what does the barrel say? I googled it, and I think it has a 3" chamber.

Hi; Thanks for the replies, I'm so dumb I was looking at the new 20ga I bought today( Win model 50 20ga). The Winchester model 37, single shot break top has .410 3" written on it. I am thinking the 2 1/2" I bought will work but again not so sure??? The 3 " I bought will work for sure, I'll do a little reading to see if 2 3/4" shells are OK as well on a regular basis or is it 3" all the time??/. live and learn I guess, always the hard way, LOL! Thanks again, Happy

If it is the proper caliber, shell size does not matter unless it is longer than the chamber length. Meaning you can shoot 1" shells in a 3" chamber all day long

              Answer Found

I read on Fireing Lines that any 2 1/'2 & 2 3/4" shell can be shot in the 3" chamber with no concern, happens all the time. God news for me who thought I had bought shells 50 miles away that were the wrong size. There I go thinking again. Thanks for your help though very much, happy

                Um, if a 410, they don't make 2 3/4" shells.. (not that I've seen).. just 2.5" and 3".

20 gauge can be 2 3/4" or 3", most 20 gauge ammo is the shorter length unless used for hunting...
