I love my BIG 5 $200 special- a hawk, h&r pardner pump. It is an outstanding gun. I love its heft, and the balance is awesome. I was going to upgrade it with magpul stuff, but I love it as it is. A lack of aftermarket barrels, but they do make em. I like mine.

Love my Hawk too! Got mine at Big 5 awhile back for $199.

Buy a used Remington 870 or Mossberg 500. Mossberg would be my first recommendation. And a used 870 Express would be a solid gun as well.

Everyone loves the Serbu Super-Shorty and they are mostly made on a Maverick 88 action...

The Mossberg 500 and Maverick 88 are the same gun minus the actual trigger group...
