Wrong, you can't have it b/c semi auto shotguns in CA can't have both a pistol grip and collapsible stock...see the assault weapons flowchart

Shotguns don't need to be 30", just 26", but with a 18" bbl it will be hard to get close to 26" oal

M1's are exceptional shotguns, I had for many years. The biggest different on the M4 is the operating system. M1, inertia, M4 ARGO (gas system).

Where the M1 will not reliably cycle light loads the M4 will digest everything you can put in it.

Don't even price a barrel for an M4

It's been an outstanding shotgun and have nothing bad to say about it... except that another barrel will set you back about the price of a Mossberg.

Just to add more confusion. The M4 is legal with all imported parts, correct? So if you change parts with US ones, then you only need to stay under the "10" rule...?

With that being said, I think, then why change only three? Couldn't you change as many as long as you stay under 10?

Had.... I bought the last one. Thank you for the lead!!! And it was a GREAT deal, considering the pricing crazyness going on everywhere. I've seen used Benelli m4's sell for 2400 already, bone stock.

yes,and yes you can change as many as you want, but why would you if you only need to keep it at 10? its already bad enough that you have to ditch perfectly fine italian parts just to replace them with the exact same american made parts.

This law wouldnt be so bad if you could switch any part, but the law only applies to a specific list of functioning parts.

It has been discussed in this thread but it is worth noting the three primary laws governing shotguns in CA.

              California specific laws:

              Penal Code section 12276.1
-Can't have folding or telescoping stock AND pistol grip
-Can't have shotgun that takes detachable magazines

              Penal Code section 12001.5
-No short barreled shotguns - i.e. no barrels less than 18" or overall length less than 26"

              Lastly there is Federal compliance:

              18 USC 922R

Out of the box an M4 is 922R compliant (and CA compliant - not considering the short barrel version). If you wish to add magazine capacity to your OEM M4 (many enthusiast do) you must also replace THREE parts from this list (you can including your American made extended magazine tube as 1 of the three) with American made replacements:

              Receiver
              Barrel
              Bolt
              Bolt carrier
              Gas piston
              Trigger housing
              Trigger
              Hammer
              Disconnector
              Buttstock (with integral pistol grip)
              Forearm/handguard (forend)
              Magazine body

I hope this concise summary is a good reference.

Just took my new M4 out to the range yesterday. Fired 20 slugs from it. Sooo much fun. I can't wait to shoot some target and 00 buck though. It packs a wallop on your shoulder with slugs. But you feel like a total BA!

After shooting my M4 my Kriss felt like a .22 :P
