    what makes shotgun load smooth/easy?

So I have always been a huge fan of my 870, love that thing, super reliable easy to maintain ect..... But this weekeend I was shooting my friends new M2 and his FNH MK1 and they load SSSOOOOO much smoother then my 870's. This may be a noob question but what makes them load so smooth and what can I do to make my 870's load smoother?

Take apart. Use semi chrome on all moving parts, maybe on a buffer wheel. Reassemble. Enjoy

The smoothest shotgun I've ever shot was a 1960's Remington 870 Wingmaster. That thing has had so many thousands of shells through it that it slides like butter on a hot skillet. Lots of shells, polishing up the surfaces, and proper lube will get it sliding proper.

        I don't think it's nice,...you laughing.
You see, my mule don't like people laughing.
He gets the crazy idea you're laughing at him.
Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to,
I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Same story, different function, same result.

What model 870 is it? I suspect it's an express. If so, they need some polising of the slide rails, chamber, & bolt assembly.

The action of my Wingmaster is pretty slick. Almost as slick as my 62' Model 12.
