If you don't want that ringing in your ear, 24/7 for the rest of your life, wear hearing protection!

Ringing in your ear? Did you have your ears on good? But glad you satisfied your craving.

        Should always wear hearing protection!!!
Ringing in your ears is pretty much hearing damage.

I fired a 12 gauge shot gun in 8th grade and did shoot a round of skeet. I did not shoot a 12 gauge again untill I picked up my Remington 887 Nitro Mag. Now that I am taller and bigger I think it is not as big a deal as I thought it was in 8th grade though I still prefer shooting my rifle more. Anyway during it's first visit my 887 broke and some nice person let me shoot his 870 Express magnum with 20" barrel. For around three rounds the recoil knocked off my ear protection and my ears were ringing. I have since bought a better fitting model because I do not like when my ears are ringing.

Try foam plugs. Cheap, good protection (better than most muffs), and they don't interfear with how the gun mounts.

I use the cheap foam plugs and they work pretty well, even in an indoor range. Just make sure you put them in properly. The other day I shot next to someone with a .500 s&w and it wasn't so much the noise but the vibration and air disturbance that gave me a shock, but hearing was fine.

Can someone please explain to me why shooting a 12g is something to talk about? I mean, I've seen plenty of preteen girls shooting +100 rounds a day and not thinking it was anything to brag about unless, they got a good score.

He's just sharing his experience shooting a 12ga for the first time. I don't see a problem with that. After all this is a gun forum...

I think he said it right the first time "may hear". As in, you may be able to hear normally from now on, but possibly not...

You didn't wear hearing protection...? You sure that you + firearms = good idea? Personally, I'm not convinced.
